Age is only important as far as interest are concerned.

You don't have to be the same age to be friends with someone. Friendship is all about commonality. I, as a 50 year old, do not have much in common with a 25 year old...ask my son!

Also, North Americans don't have a monopoly on the generation gap.

There sure is a lot of inductive reasoning here. We are age intolerant? - I have never heard that in my life - unless you mean someone over 18 messing with a 14 year old.

First off - your generlization is way off base. You are totally wrong.
I have friends of all ages. Some younger, but I prefer not to associate with minors. Quite a few are older than I am, some substantially so.
Age is completely irrelevant, common interests are what's important.

Age is a determining factor of maturity usually, no one wants to be around someone less mature, and I hate old people because they are boring and don't like to see things catch fire.... I hate teens because most are posers...Young adults think they know everything and old people try to tell you everything.... I'm now in the age of true discovery... 25, I want to meet and be around other aimlessly fumbling adults just seeing the horrors of the real world.
I have a few friends that are younger than I and two that are in their forties, I look up to the older ones as surrogate mothers, the younger ones I take to the mall with me and they carry my bags... But I don't generally hang out with either because we don't have much in common.

Age is irrelevant.
Thinking is what's important.
If two people have similar ideas and opinions, they can be friends under the right circumstances.
