You don't have to remember so much, just remember the facts as they were, and nothing ever changes. You can tell everyone the same thing without the need to try to remember who you said what to. If you lie, some part of the story usually doesn't fit right so you have to tell another lie to cover up that inconsistency and to make the story fit. After a while as other people hear the story and ask questions it's discovered that something else "doesn't add up", so you revise the story some more. In short order you have so many versions of your story out there that you begin to contradict yourself because you can't remember which version you told to which person.
Another BIG advantage to always telling the truth is that sometimes you have to "rat on yourself". That sends a powerful message to everyone who knows you that you are honest even when it hurts. That will be a very strong defense for you if and when you are ever accused of something that you didn't do.

Generally it is because most people feel the need to lie to get themselves out of trouble but 9 times out of 10 it will backfire. You will either get found out, or you'll feel guilty about lying so you'd have been better off telling the truth in the first place.
Often you think you'll get in trouble for something but actually you get respect off the other person for admitting you did something wrong, afterall everyone makes mistakes.
Mostly you punish yourself for getting things wrong because you feel stupid or something. Other people forget a long time before you do epecially if you own up. If they find out you lied they probably won't forget and will always mistrust you.
The reason I said at the start that it is generally the best policy is because you don't always have to be totally honest if it would hurt someones feelings but not achieve anything. The best thing to do in those circumstances is to not quite answer the question (don't say yes or no) but elaborate.
Example:
Qusetion - Do you like this dress?
Truth - No, it's disgusting.
Answer - It's ok, but I prefer the other one. It brings out the colour in your eyes/makes you look taller/shows off your best asset, etc.
You are being non-commital about the dress she is asking about so she won't get hurt if she loves it or even wears it. She will probably wear the other one because she now thinks she looks better in it and will probably think it was her decision. Let's face it, if she was sure in the first place she wouldn't have asked anyway. Win Win situation.
Q - Do you like my new hair cut?
T - No, it looks a mess.
It's not my taste.
Looks like you've been pulled through a hedge
backwards.
A - That cut is all the rage now isn't it?
It suits you.
I thought you'd had something done.
It makes you look younger.
Pick something that is true without actually telling them you think it's horrid. You are still being honest, just not brutally honest!

Imagine a world full of lies... what would it seem like? How would u know the truth if everybody lies? Even if sometimes, honesty and the truth may hurt, but it is the best thing to do. If u don't want to rely to religeon to support ur idea, then u should resort to ur conscious which regularly should be a good support in ur case and to tell u what's right from what's wrong.. Honesty is definitly the right thing to do. But. if u resort to religeon and the beliefs, it would, surely b alot easier!!!!!!

A lie might not seem important to us—but in God's eyes there is no such thing as a harmless lie. In the Old Testament, one of the Ten Commandments declares, "You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor" (Exodus 20:16). The New Testament says, "Each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor" (Ephesians 4:25).
Why is this? Let me answer by asking you another question: Have you ever asked yourself why you lie—even when it seems unimportant? One reason may be to build yourself up in the eyes of others—to make yourself seem more important, for example, or to get them to like you. Or perhaps you lie to get yourself out of some difficulty—a difficulty you've gotten into because you failed to do something you should have done.
But whatever the reason, have you ever asked yourself what really happens when other people realize you're lying to them? The answer is obvious. Instead of thinking well of you, they look down on you and realize you can't be trusted. Instead of winning their love and respect, you end up with their scorn. The Bible says, "What a man desires is unfailing love; better to be poor than a liar" (Proverbs 19:22).
Begin a new life today by giving your life to Christ and asking Him to come into your heart. Then ask Him to watch over your tongue and help you always speak the truth.

Because if you're honest, you don't have to keep trying to remember the lies you've told to cover up the truth. That can be taxing. And also,by being honest, nobody has to guess about you and what you mean when you say something.Being honest doesn't always make you a lot of friends, but it will always get you respect. Not everyone who is honest are liked, but they sure do seem to get a lot of respect, even from those who don't really like them. This has been my experience anyway.

because if you follow this, then u earn a good reputation and gain trust from people. integrity is most important especially when you transact business. a good name is an asset no one can rob from you. everywhere you go, and in whatever endeavor you are into, its a measure of your credibility. there are peole who can borrow cash just because of their credibility. like character loan. people do not hesitate to lend you money because they know they can count on you.
