As some one whose close blood relatives are equally divided between British and American families, and who has, over the years, lived for a few months at a time in the USA, my experience is that there is no great hostility between American and British people. Admittedly, when it comes to governments it's a slightly different matter - but then, politics has always been a contentious issue between most nations at some time or another. But at the 'common people' level, my experience is that we seem to get on quite well. After all, we share so many common values that it would be strange if we did not.
Of course, the ignorant few on both sides of the Atlantic will hold bigoted views, whether about the 'loud mouthed Yank', or the 'aloof, arrogant Brit', but the truth is that when we are together - whether it be at a family gathering, serving side by side in a conflict, or just casually meeting up as visitors to each other's country, there is little animosity on show.
Personally speaking, in nearly four decades of being in the company of Americans, whether serving in the armed forces, dining with my American friends and family, on vacation in the USA or in casual meetings in the UK, I've never heard any one say anything offensive about the fact that I am British. And I wouldn't say anything offensive about the Americans either.
So maybe the hostilities to which you refer are more a media driven ('it makes a good story') phenomenon, or are a result of the distorted views of the untravelled, unthinking, brainless ignoramases on both sides. [But on the other hand, I have lived in New York and a lot of that city's officials are hostile to every body - American, British... in fact any nationality!]

We hate Bush and view him as the new Hitler his family funded the Nazi party and he even did the same trick Hitler did of attacking his own people to start a war. Us British love the Americans we just hate your brainwashing media and corrupt government, if the Americans got the truth from there media they would be up in arms. There were no WMD`s so what does that say please I am all ears.
I think it is very important to again say we like American people but not your leaders look into the skull and bones secret society

There probably aren't that many problems between the two peoples. I think that it's a government thing. I'm an American, and I am as puzzled as the Brits at why we, an educated and advanced society, let peripheral pot-stirring issues like "gay marriage" lead us to elect a group of men who are screwing up the world.
Perhaps, also, the Brits consider us to be the rich bullies who expect them to follow our lead like lap dogs.
In short, there is affection between the cultures, puzzlement at the politics.

Thank you for asking this question because I have wondered this myself. From some of the questions I have seen on here they are having the same problems with their government that we are having such as government not caring what the people the want and not listening to them. Immigration problems and such. So you know as much as I do on this one, maybe a Brit can tell us.
