That is normal, because all babies have different sleeping patterns! And, YES, you should answer him every time he cries at 9 weeks old!! I am not a "cry it out" fan, personally, but if you choose to do that, wait until he is AT LEAST 4 months old!! If he is crying, he needs you!
Please don't listen to those who tell you to let him cry at 9 weeks old!! That is too young!!

You should answer to him when he cries!!! my Dr told me that you cannot spoil him until he is 6 months old. As for sleeping my 9 week old is just starting to to sleep more day time. He use to get up at 8:00am and only cat nap during the day he use to go down at 9:30pm. but he is sleeping longer now. I think that they go through different patterns.

No don't answer him everytime he cries. By now he's realizing that if he cries you'll come running. Pay attention to his cries and you'll notice the difference between actually needing something and just wanting attention. As long as he's fed and changed and has no reason to be crying let him cry for a little bit. It won't hurt him and it actually helps him strengthen his lungs. Try playing some soft music and make sure you have a nightlight in the room when you lay him down this way he doesn't feel so alone. But i'm telling you from experience running to him everytime he cries will lead to nightmare of a time later. Good luck!!

Its normal. He still needs a nap, but he might only cat nap from time to time. My 7 week old has started refusing his morning and early afternoon nap. Instead he naps around 4-5 and then sleeps from 8pm to 4 straight, then nurses and sleeps to 6.
He wont be able to make it the whole day wide awake, and eventually he will conk out and sleep. Just provide him that chance.
I let my guy fussy fuss about 10 minutes, or until he's screaming like a little pig. Generally he'll cry and carry on complaining for a few minutes and forget about being upset and fall asleep. If he's crying SO HARD that he's holding his breath or obviously not going to calm down, i go in, pat his little booty (it makes him sleepy) and try to calm him before picking him up. Then i pick him up, calm him down until he's groggy again, and lay him back down and try the routine a second time.
If the third time fails, I get him up and let him stay awake for another hour before trying again.

You need to work on a sleeping pattern for your baby. My 10 month old was the opposite..she wouldn't sleep at night the first 3 weeks. What a nightmare! Most babies like to be rocked....like all day, so if you have a swing, use that. If you don't have one, GET ONE. The swing was a lifesavor with both of my kids. Wrap the baby up like a burrito, they love that and put him on the swing, put some music on and hope it works. Both my kids fall asleep with music on and smothered in blankets. I always wrapped them up really well as newborns and that worked for them. Try that.

Yes it's normal, he's crying because he's overly tired. Don't going running to him the second he cries. But don't wait very long either. Try giving him an extra 2 ozs of formula and see if he goes to sleep.

Yes, that is normal. Some people say that answering him everytime he cries will spoil him but I don't think so. Babies need that nurturing.
