I think the Island of Santerini in the Eastern Mediterranean was Atlantis. Some archaeologists have made a good case. The center of the Island was blown away by a super volcanic eruption in 1500 BC. It is now a ring of islands which is actually the rim of the volcanic crater. Evidence of a civilization advanced for it's time has been discovered. Plumbing techniques once attributed to Roman ingenuity had to be pushed back a millennium or so.
BTW, I reported sarge for you

I think it did exist, I think it existed at least 2000 years or so BC. I do think it was advanced, but nothing like we are today compared to them. I believe they dressed like the Greeks and Romans of that era.
I do think they had developed plumbing and probably had modern like running water although not the same as today. There was probably a waterfall and river near the homes that people taped into for their water.
I think it was a peaceful city and stayed to itself. I can imagine them being mainly vegetarians who were very proficient in gardening.
I think they were poetic and musical inclined. Okay I admit not much of my theory is based on fact, except the evidence of it existing and being advanced, but this is the way I envision it.
I believe the honored the Gods of old and celebrated what we today call sabbots.

It existed, all right. But it was nothing more than your run-of-the-mill ancient Greek city. From what I've seen on the National Geographic Channel, the story was adapted by Plato from an Egyptian story about the island. Basically, some Egyptian merchants traveled there to trade with the people, but when they got there all that was left was a big crater. Now we know that the island suffered some sort of earthquake which caused the island to sink into the sea. Plato took the story from the Egyptian priests and made it into a cautionary tale about defying the gods.

There are several different eras to Atlantis. Here is what I see
1-wizards, some white bearded and good, some very evil
2-children working at jobs
3-power hungry queens, era of extreme jealousy
4-love as a weapon
5-very strange punishments for children
6-belief in the power of blood
7-parents turning their kids into animals/dolls etc when they get tired of them
8-chemistry labs
9-theft of benevolent power through deceitful/unethical means
10-parental homes have large walls full of books

Not so long ago, a scientist found a sunkan island not too different from 'Atlantis'. He and his team believe this was the 'Atlantis' that had been surrounded by some many myths.
