reggie lewis passed when the celts were on the way down.if my recollection is correcct he passed the season that the upstart hornets (zo,lj, mugsy) beat them. so basically that team was good enough to get to the playoffs but not good enough to do any damage...

len bias was supposed to be the man to take the torch from bird and lead the celts after the big 3 was gone. according to everyone, especially coach k of duke, there were only 2 players in the acc that he felt out of all his years in coaching that were bonafide nba superstars...michael jordan and len bias.

who knows if bias would've been as good as they say he would've been but even if he was 80% as good as advertised and reggie lewis was around they couldve been a very good team.

as lucky as the celts were to get bird with the #6 pick as a jr eligible and chief and the #3 pick (mchale) from the bonehead warriors for joe barry carroll...they were as unlucky to have these 2 tragedies happen.

Len Bias with no doubt. Bias was drafted right at a time he could have been the bridge between the end of McHale's run and the 1990's. There's no doubt Boston would have won a couple of more titles had he lived.

Reggie Lewis, however, came in after Bird had retired and the Celtics were in a downward spiral accelerated by his death.
Maybe he could have helped Pierce and Walker in the late 1990's, but I don't think he had the impact Bias would have had.

Reggie Lewis had played his best basketball when he died... and, he was very good, but not great in his prime. No where near as good as Bird, McHale or Parrish.

Len Bias was one of the all time great college talents, and could have been one of the all-time best NBA talents as well. (In fact, Michael Jordan has said that from a pure talent perspective, Len Bias was the best he ever played against at any level.)

No, Boston was on the downswing since Bird and Parrish were past their primes....

They would have been better, but they would not have been superior.
