I have never heard of that! If you are still concerned, push the doctor for more info or ask another doctor. Mother's intuition is sometimes best. I am sure he will be fine, though. But it's always better to be safe than sorry, in my opinion!!
Good luck!
Edited to add: I have seen them turn red in the face, but not stop breathing.

If he's actually turning blue and not breathing, THAT's not normal. He may have an obstructed airway, which could be as simple as his tongue falling back and another position might help. Yes, they turn purple and maybe for a second or two can't catch their breath when crying very hard: for how long does he stop breathing? Do you have any friends or relatives that have had babies? Get one of them to watch him as he does it and see what they think. If you're still concerned, don't let the doctor put you off: sometimes mothers really DO know best so keep pushing and if necessary ask another doctor until you're satisfied the baby is okay.

Typically when a baby does this it's because he's in some kind of pain. He could be suffering from colic. My niece suffered from this. Talk to the pediatrician about the colic. Maybe that's it. On average alot of babies doe this. Both my kids (now 3 yrs and 10 months) did this. It wasn't colic but it was gas. If you suspect he's gasy, give him some Mylicon drops. It usually helps.

Babies are very smart. He knows that if he does this he you will hurry up and pick him up or get his bottle. He can breathe and he will. Although he seems very young, your child can begin leaning patience right now. Don't worry - He's just practicing for his future in drama.
The blueness in his face is from him not breathing - but he's okay. Babies have much thinner (and a lighter color) skin than adults so the blueness comes much quicker. It doesn't mean he's suffering. His baby skin just makes it look that way.

I know some babies do stop breathibng for a minute, but i've always thought that was when they were older. Follow your gut instinct, and go back to the doctor, just to be on the safe side.

Its perfectly normal. Newborns, and all infants, cry like this. They scream and scream and scream, and then hold their breath and tense up before squaking again.
Ive never known one who DIDNT do it. My 7 week old does it all the time :). Turns red like a lobster, and then purple as a grape.
Its perfectly and totally normal.

sounds to me like it may be a circulation problem. red and purple faces i've seen, but never blue. if he continues this he will have a lack of oxygen to his brain and may grow up to have some serious learning problems. take him to a specialist.
