They do do a scan beofre the actual procedure and offer you to look.
Do you think that it might cause you more pain or misery though? make the whole process a lot harder?
Best wishes x

Hi!
I am pretty sure that, as other people have said, a scan will be done before the aborthion anyway so you can see the child then.
I was shocked to read some of the answers you got earlier. I share their view abortion is wrong but no need to be so rude. Ignore them.
However, are you really sure you want to go through this? The fact that you want to see the child might suggest you are not too sure.
It's none of my business (or anyone else's) to tell you what to do but coming from a third world country where I have seen and worked with people so poor their biggest concern was how to get throught the next day and yet would not have dreampt of getting rid of their kids and did a stunning job with them, I have trouble in understanding how in Britain one can resort to such a procedure.
I don't think people in this country appreciate the help and support available enough.
The fact is that here, if you don't want the kid, you have the luxury (and believe me it is a luxury) of having several options. Abortion, anonymous adoption, open adoption..
What I don't get is how given such a choice so many women opt for the first.
The fact is this baby exists. It's not his or her fault and I feel killing it is unfair. You made him even though you did not want to and don't want him. Ok. But why not give him the chance of a good life? Adoption is a great option. I should know; I was adopted.
When in my twenties, I tracked down my mother. I found out she had nearly had an a bortion but at the last minute had changed her mind. I can't tell you how gratefull I was. I love life and if it was not for her, I would never have had all this.
At the time, she could not have kept me but twenty or so years latter, when we met, she was really pleased and in her own words 'felt more at peace than i could ever have it i had had an abortion'.
True, keeping your kid even if you have him adopted would affect your life a lot more than having an abortion what with pregnacy and birth but how good would you feel knowing that you were really brave and that although it was hard, you gave that child the possibility of having a great life? Surely that is better than making him pay for your mistakes.
I'm not having a go at you. I just really want you to be sure you have thought of every option and the consequences of what you might do.
Take care, best wishes whatever happens xxxxx

I had one before to see how far along i was, then had to wait 5 days before i could go back for the temination, i asked for the pictures, i don' know why but i just felt that i had to see my baby. I still look at the picture and it breaks my heart but i'm still glad i have my scan pic. You should be given a scan before to confirm how far along you are. Don't listen to what people say, just do whats right for you x

I would recommend that you call a local pregnancy help clinic, before you schedule your abortion. You will be able to see your baby, plus an ultrasound will be able to tell you how far along you are - and also share some of the risks that are associated with an abortion. If you do not know where on is in your area- you can call CARENET and they can give you a local number.

Yes, I believe scans are done to make sure that you're pregnant. Contrary to what some idiots (also known as pro-lifers) will tell you, they will offer to let you listen to the embryo's heartbeat and see the sonogram. Also, you're still in the window for the abortion pill (you may not need a surgical abortion).
You should talk to the doctor who will do the procedure to know exactly what scans and tests will be done, and plannedparenthood.org will probably have something explaining how a typical first trimester abortion is performed (it's quite safe, statistically safer than childbirth, and it doesn't take very long.).

First of all, let me say that I'm pro choice but I can't understand why you would want to see your baby and then abort it.

dont know but i was under the impresion that the docs would give you a scan first anyway. Why do you want a scan if your not keeping the baby anyway. Is it to make sure thats what you want? Good luck with whaver you do. but DO talk to someone and DO take really good care of yourself.....

What kind of scan? An ultrasound? I am not sure how it works with an abortion, but I would think they would do one to confirm the pregnancy and how far along you are, but I could be wrong.

Hi,
I had a 5 week scan for much the same reason. The nurse may turn the monitor away from you - but if you want to see - tell her.
Please don't be upset by the pro-lifers on here - i wonder how many of them have walked a mile in our shoes.
God Bless.
