you are age x

in 5 years time you will be x + 5

your mother is 27+x assuming she ages the same way we all do and is not a Time Lord from Gallifrey

8 years ago, she was twice what you will be in 5 years time

27+x-8 = 2(x+5)

19+x = 2x + 10
Solve for x, you happy 9 year old

No wonder you can't do algebra

You would be 4 years old because when you were born your mother was 27 supposing that your mother is 48 because it has to be a number that if you subtract 8 it gives 0 or 5 as a ones place. Now, you need to know how old are you relating the age of your mother, you have the information that your mother is 48(example) you subtract 8 and it is 40, it functions because the number´s one place is 0 so, the age that we actually have is 40and you say it is twice as old so 40 divided 2 is 20 and the age you will be in 5 years so, 20 divided 5 is 4 so, you are 4 years old.

Let your present age be x

Turn your problem into a linear equation in one variable.
The required Equatins is:

27 + x- 8 = 2(x + 5)
19 + x = 2x + 10
x + 10 = 19
x = 9

your age is x
after 5 yrs, x+5(add)
then ur mom'll be 27+x
she was two times 8yrs ago what you will be in 5 years time
then,
27+x-8 = 2(x+5)
solve,
19+x = 2x + 10
19-10=2x-x
9=x and that's ur age.
ur question is really nice

x = present age
27 + x = moms present age

27+x -8 =2(5+x)
