I think that if you tell him what you said in your question, it would work. He needs to know both parents love him and always will. A four year old is pretty smart and he probably already understands who will always be there for him and who won't. I saw your other question so I know you are very concerned and that tells me you are a good parent and trying very hard so that he will understand. Good Luck and God Bless you both.

Frame a picture of you and of his dad separately and keep it by his bed in his room. Tell him every night how much the two of you love him no matter where you guys are at. If and he asks questions give him short answers (until he is older). And whenever he wants to talk about dad do so and if he can call his dad and also write to him have him draw a picture to dad. And show him love. He will realize it.

Just tell him u guys can't live together anymore and that he gets a new place to live theres not really a way to break it to him just day daddys going away for a while
