Since we visited Alaska last year and dealt with many locals for 5 months, I would say Alaska. It is definitly a young people state. It is very cold in the winter and we older people don't take to the cold well.

There are jobs galore. if you are young. Fishing is a big industry that requires long hours and hard work. Who's better suited for this than the young? The oil pipeline requires year round attention, hot or cold weather. There is still gold to be found in Alaska and who rather than the young can survive the harsh conditions. A few older hermits do now, but the young rule.

Hawaii does have a young population with all the surfers. It has a much better climate and that's where Alaskans mostly go on vacation.

If I was young I would summer in Alaska and winter in Hawaii.
