Dicators rule by fear. The citizens ALWAYS see their dictators for who they are, and the only people who succeed in the government are those who are either terrified of being shot on sight or kiss up to the dictator. The rest of the people just suffer.

Chavez has already assumed state control of the media. This is a hallmark of dictatorships--the control of information.

(Many Middle Eastern Countries have been actively intimidating journalists into writing pro-Islamic and anti-Israeli stories for decades, and Russia is well down this road, as well. They've begun assassinating journalists who write anti-Russian stories.)

Well, he's not totally out to lunch. Some of his initiatives are good - very good.

Unfortunately, he doesn't know when to stop talking and he's so wired on double espressos (I understand he drinks minimum 12 of them a day), he comes off as maniacal. Maybe he is a little crazy, although some would protest he is "crazy like a fox".

His main beef with the U.S. is that at least twice the U.S. has tried to engineer his overthrow. That would make me mad, too, although I think I have the temperament and sense not to make others think I'm a lunatic. "Bush is the Devil"...oh, come on!

The U.S. should stop trying to overthrow democratically-elected governments and install puppets to further certain business interests. It is that simple. We are quick to complain about the blowback but never seem to be quick enough to acknowledge our government's complicity in failed political systems. If we stopped trying to overthrow Chavez, maybe he would not now be so paranoid, tightening his control over Venezuela in the style of U.S.-sanctioned Latin American dictators.

won't happen anytime soon. Leftist leaders like chavez and most democrats in the USA thrive on giving handouts to people who are living in a state of total economic ignorance. meaning they don't know, understand, or have been taught how economics and business actually works. Chavez is where he's at becuase his country is sitting on a bunch of oil. It's one of the richest nations in the western hemisphere, but most of it's people live in squalor.he can throw handouts to the people and they respond.

Can we hope that they see George Bush's point of view and not their own?
Gee, I don't think so. His own people have rescued him from a coup and a recall attempt.
