I like that idea.
I'm a white American, but the more I hear about Columbus, the less I like him. For example, the Arawak, the original people of Jamaica, no longer exist (although some Jamaicans may have Arawak ancestors). The Arawak were essentially wiped off the face of the earth.
I'm happy to hear you don't take the Chief Wahoo stuff too seriously, it is stereotypical, but I don't think anyone meant any harm when they made it up. I'm kind of embarrassed about things like that, though. But, I'm part Irish, and I don't really get offended by stereotypical portrayals of the Irish on St. Patrick's Day. The Irish were treated pretty bad by the English, but I guess it's not quite the same thing as what the Native Americans went through.
Indigenous People's Day sounds good to me.

I think the day should be took off the calander. Heck, the kids these days are not learning how he discovered america, the schools, at least around here, are teaching them what he realy did and that he did not discover america, unlike when I was a kid, they are finally starting to teach the correct history. I don't see why we should honnor a man who slaughtered his way into the history books.

ps. I'm not native and I can trace my family tree back to columbus but I still think he was a SOB.
