A dry mouth doesn't necessarily mean dehydration. It can be a sign of diabetes or a side effect of a medication. Dehydration is caused by not drinking enough water; not replacing fluids lost when you're exercising or working hard. Fluids are lost through perspiration, diarrhea, and vomiting. Carbonated beverages, coffee and tea leech fluids out of your body. Diuretic medications also can cause dehydration.

I would agree...call a doctor...but a lack of fluids does cause dehydration. If your skin is very dry you might try taking a little cooler of a shower rather than scalding hot try warm and using a good moisturizer after you towel dry. As far as getting your lips...I drink water all day every day and my lips are always dry too. I use Chapstick brand lip moisturizer and it seems to work the best without becoming "addictive". Dehydration is more severe than just being thirsty all of the time though. If you are very active your body is going to need more fluid intake than that of a person who is not active. If you play sports you may want to try a drink such as Gatorade or powerade that contains "electrolytes" these will help restore and retain your body's vitamins lost during periods of activity. To test if you really do drink all 8 servings of water a day measure out 8 cups into a pitcher and leave it on your counter. Without trying to finish it, just drink what you would normally drink during a normal day and see how far you get. Your thirst for water could just be your body telling you "I'm not getting enough". Definitely consult your doctor though just in case it could be something more serious.

You've got "dry mouth". It has nothing to do with dehydration. It can be caused by a variety of things, even be genetic or due to taking some meds. The doctor or dentist is the only one who can give you more insight, since we online don't know anything about you and can't examine you.

Well a big sign of diabetes is never getting enough to drink. just try some soft lips or something. they take taht away right away. do you feel thirsty or just dry? sometimes you can get dehydrated and it takes a couple days to get back hydrated.

If you don't drink a lot of water, you get dehydrated.

Unless you are running a fever, or doing strenuous activity,m you should not be dehydrated.

Might not be as much water as you think...

If your urine isn't almost clear, then you need more water.
