I lived in NY for the first 24 years of my life. I then moved down to Texas and have been here for about 2 years. All I am going to say is that everytime the Yankees are in town the games are sold out. I go to Arlington Stadium to watch the Yanks play the Rangers and you see a ton more Yankee fans then Rangers fans. Now I am sure some of the fans are fakes but I doubt that all of them are. Yankees fans are country/worldwide. I mean really, who wouldn't love the Yankees??? lol

I live in Honolulu, Hawaii. I have never been to New York nor have I ever been to Yankee Stadium.
I have been a loyal NY Yankees fan since 1995 when they lost the divisional championship series against the Mariners.
My loyalty was tested in 1996, on game 4 of the world series when Yankees were already down 3 games to 1 against the Braves. The score was 6-3 when Jim Leyritz blasted a 3-run dinger that tied the game and sent it to extra innings. The Yankees won the world series that year.
1997, we lost to Indians 3-2 games
1998, we swept the San Diego Padres in WS 4-0
1999, we swept the Atlanta Braves in WS 4-0
2000, we nearly swept the Mets in WS 4-1
2001, was the most hearbreaking year for any true Yankees fan. Luis Gonzalez blooped up a single to win in game 7 of the WS against Mariano Rivera. We lost heroically.. already down 0-2 we came back to take the lead 3-2 but came up short.
2002, we lost in the first round to Angels 3 games to 1.
2003, we lost in the world series against the Marlins. 2-4
2004, another heartbreaking year...The damn Red Sox came back on a 0-3 games and beat us in game 7 with Kevin Brown starting for us.... what a nightmare it was for us.
2005, we lost to the Angels again in the first round.
2006, we had the most promising year..Wang was a gem, Randy was okay, Mussina was consistant. Our whole entire batting lineup were all-stars. Yet we still lost to the Detroit Tigers in the first round.
2007, I am still a loyal Yankees fan after 6 heartbreaking years. I always get updates with every game they play.
Despite all the setbacks and disappointments with the playoffs, A-Rod, Randy Johnson, Kevin Brown, and Mariano Rivera. I am still a New York Yankees fan and I dont live in NY. I am not an immigrant. I am not a bandwagon. I dont have a nice NY Yankees cap or Jersey. So people like me do exist that doesnt live in NY.

People outside of New York definitely like the Yankees. Some of them are real, legitimate Yankee fans, but some of them have jumped on the bandwagon after the Yanks won their titles. Also a lot of New Yorkers have moved to other states, and taken their love of the Yankees with them.
If you want to talk about people who have jumped on the bandwagon, you need look no further than many of the new "fans" of the Boston Red Sox. After they won their fluke, wild-card aided World Series, I began seeing hats with "B" on them in places I had never seen them before where I live in Upstate NY. I rarely, if ever, saw Boston fans here, but now it's a sad, but common sight to see people who have become Red Sox fans after '04. And Red Sox fans call Yankee fans bandwagon jumpers.

No, outside NY its cool to be a Yankee hater. The team with the most bandwagon fans is Boston. People see them as a Yankee antithesis even tho they spend more money than anyone else but the Yankees.

I think the problem with liking the Yankees is the media. It seems like most reporters think that New York is the only place in the world and they talk like every team in the area is much better than any time in any other state. That makes most people that don't live in New York root against any team from the area.

First of all, I'm white and was born in Atlanta, GA. Second, I've been to NY once in my life. Third, I've been a Yankee fan for 44 years. How's that for a bandwagon A**hole??

they can like the yankees but i doubt they like em as much as people who like around NY. I live in NJ and people here go to a ton of games. I think you have to go to games to really get the atmosphere of the yankees

Just because you don't live in NY doesn't mean you can't be a Yankees fan,or any other team for that matter.
