The super 8 consists of the top two teams of the four groups A, B, C, D. In order to be in the top two, winning two matches is a must. A win gives 2 pts. and a draw/nr gives 1pt each. India must atleast win a match and have a draw, while their net run rate has to be higher than the other two. But India will easily win two matches (that against bangladesh and bermuda), and may win against sri lanka due to their offlate form.
A team will need 2 losses to be eliminated. But once in super 8, all 8 teams play each other except for the team they have already played in the group stage (india would not play sri lanka). The top 4 teams there will be decided by the same point system.
First and Fourth team play first semi final
Second and Third team play other semi-final
Winners of the respective semi-finals play the final.

Well, its very simple.

World cup starts with 4 groups, each consisting 4 teams, making total of 16, from each group, 2 best teams will reach the super 8 stage making a total of 8 teams, where each team would play each other in the Super 8 Stage i.e 7 matches per each team in that stage.

After playing 7 matches each, the best 4 will reach to the Semi Finals. The best 4 will be choosen on their no. of wins from those 7 matches, in case of draw, the team with higher net run rate makes it to the semi's.

In semi's the best team takes on the 3rd best and 2nd takes on the 4th best andthen the winners clash in the final.

To sum up, 16 teams starts off, then 8, then 4, then 2 and then The World Champion.
