This is more a question of common practice than practicality. Obviously small children shouldn't spend excessive amounts of time in hot temperatures regardless of where it is, sauna or not. It is true that their bodies can't regualte their internal temperatures like adults do. But there are many countries where children join their parents in hot tubs and steam rooms as well as saunas. Whether or not they are naked is more a social issue than anything else. In most cases here in the US young children are allowed the freedom of nudity, while older children and adults somehow are seen in a different light. Most Americans associate nudity with sexuality and therefore as something bad or to be ashamed of around others. When children are taught that nudity is acceptable in certain settins they not only learn that nudity does not equal sex, they learn that there are many different kinds of bodies and that they are all ok. Can a little kid be naked in a sauna? There's no reason why not. Should a little kid be naked in a sauna? depends on the culture. Here in America the answer is probably going to be no until we break the cycle of stupidity. But I don't see that happening anytime soon. Personally, saunas should be enjoyed in the nude, regardless of age, that goes for steam rooms and hot tubs too.

of course. A sauna is a natural, healthy way to sweat out toxins. Children's exposure should be limited to just a few minutes though, and they should be supervised. Make sure they drink plenty of water.

The health spa I go to frequently has whole families there, as well as couples and singles. Everyone is naked in the sauna and the hot tub, including kids from age 3 up. No-one minds, and it is definitely NOT a sexual environment.

No, I don't think this would be appropriate, although in Sweden it is quite acceptable for families to take a sauna together. Unfortunately, there are individuals who find pre-adoloescent nudity exciting, and parents should be extra vigilant about exposing their children to that kind of environment. Besides, from a health point of view, it really is not advisable for children to use saunas anyway.

My parents, aunt, uncles, grand parents came from Finland. My grandfather built a sauna and several neighbors used it also. For us it was no big deal, but Americans have this 'thing' about kids seeing adults naked. Screws up their psyche if they're taught that nakedness is nasty. When we were stationed in Sardinia, my sons went with us to beaches where clothing was optional (actually, clothing was RARE) and being around naked men and women never bothered them. My oldest started laughing the first time he saw a little girl naked. She looked 'WEIRD' with no hair. Then I pointed out that he had none, also. After that, it was back to being a no big deal.
KIds in this country are taught that nakedness is a bad thing, then we wonder why there are so many sexually screwed up adults. Women wear tiny bathing suits that barely cover their nipples and crotch and throw a fit if you see their bra or underpants up their skirt. They wear blouses and dresses that allow you to see 3/4 of their breast and bras that push up and in their breasts and get p.o'd when you do look (and enjoy looking). Young girls wear pants that are so tight it looks like their pants are painted on and so low that they would show their pubic hair if they didn't shave it off and call men PERVS when they look.
If nakedness is allowed to be something natural, then kids will grow up with a healthy outlook on their sexuality instead of being screwed up like so many are today.

Most saunas don't allow kids to use them.
But I've seen some in hotels that actually do. Most of the kids I would see in them would wear their swimsuits though.

Children under 16 should not be in a Sauna. They're bodies are not capable of maintaining a steady body temperature in high heat. There are usually warning signs posted.

Little kids should not be in the sauna. It could damage their skin.
