The same as the difference between a feline and a cat. Two different names for the same thing. And Ripping is a misnomer, as FAIR USE DOCTRINE dictates that if you already own the CD it is perfectly acceptable to copy it to your own computer, no matter WHAT those RIAA brainwashed droids above might say to the contrary. No worse than recording an album on cassette so you can listen to it in your car, and even Ron Reagan did that!!

burner/writer same thing
'ripping' a CD means copying the data from the CD to your computer, it originates from the term 'rip off' as in "to rip-off or steal an artists work" due to the rise in digital music piracy in the late 90's
And of course, you can find most of this out for yourself at Wikipedia : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cd_writer

A cd burner copies data from cd to another. A cd writer copies data from your computer to a blank disc.

Same thin.
Ripping a Music CD means that you are copying that music into your Media Player software.
Get this right... the word "Rip Off" comes from the 1960s and means STEAL. So when you RIP music, you are STEALING.
Good luck with that .
