The longest snake alive today, is the Reticulated Python, Python reticulatus of South-east Asia. It measures 6-10 metres (20-33 feet) in length & weighs up to 200kg (440lbs). The Anaconda, Eunectes murinus of Northern South America & Trinidad is also about the same length, but is much heavier, with a weight reaching 250kg (550lbs). The largest individuals of Reticulated Pythons, however, are becoming increasingly rare, as they are hunted widely for their skins. The Anaconda, also, is adapted like a Crocodilian. Like the Crocodilians, it is primarily an aquatic ambush predator, with its eyes & nostrils located on top of its head & ambushing animals as they come to drink at the waters' edge.

Recorded length is reticulated python.
Recorded weight is anaconda.

Although I once saw a photo in a store in Iquitos, Peru of an anaconda killed by the military, with some 30 soldiers holding it up. It must have been at least 45 feet long, but never measured according to the strict standards necessary to get into the record books.

A reticulated python generally grows longer, but Anacondas are the biggest in circumference. Anacondas are also the snakes with the largest heads and, very scarily, as I found out once, if you get close to them, you can actually hear them breathe.

I actually believe the anaconda is bigger but....a confined creature will sometimes stop growing depending on the space they are provided to grow in. That being said, anacondas AND reticulated pythons can grow to enormus sizes and my opinion is that the environment they live in and whether they have "free roam space" will play a huge part in how large they can or do get. Thanks.
