Pursuing Clinton while having an affair himself. I know the obvious neo-con argument-that Clinton lied under oath. Even the billy bob-evangelical types are willing to forgive -mainly because they agree with him politically. I guess god only cares about (or knows) about ones indescretion when you are under oath. I did not say conservatives-because the people who are now in the Republican part don't deserve the label, Fellow Repubs wake up-we have to admit where we have screwed up-if we keep defending our failures and hypocrasies we are doomed.

From Salon - Newt's Glass House

...The most notorious incident in Gingrich's marriage -- first reported by David Osborne in Mother Jones magazine in 1984 -- was when he cornered Jackie in her hospital room where she was recovering from uterine cancer surgery and insisted on discussing the terms of the divorce he was seeking.

Shortly after that infamous encounter, Gingrich refused to pay his alimony and child-support payments. The First Baptist Church in his hometown had to take up a collection to support the family Gingrich had deserted.

The entire article is a must read. No one can defend Newt after reading this story. (Caution: the article's details get a little steamy. Who would have thought Newt was such a naughty boy?)

I used to like Newt Gringrich...before I heard about the hospital incident involving his first wife. Funny thing is that was back when Clinton was being impeached (which I was totally for) SO what has bugged me this go around is that everyone is acting like this is something new. Didn't anyone else read the news back in the 90's if it didn't involve Clinton and his bj's? Anyway to answer your question...yes I think he's being a hypocrite. But I don't think anyone will care anyway because there's no way he'd be the Republican nominee...and if by some miracle he was there's no way I'd vote for him...and this coming from a die hard Republican.

YES-hypocrisy. Abso-frickin-lutely!

Makes no difference if he wasn't caught in a lie like First Lady Bill did. Fact is, he's going after First Lady Bill for the exact thing he was doing. And yes, I know that First Lady Bill was not impeached for having Monica Blowinsky under his desk, but for lying about it under oath. Newt screwed around on his wife, while going after someome who is doing things just as wrong. That is hypocrisy.

Reminds me of what the late Yankees manager Billy Martin said about George Steinbrenner and Reggie Jackson: "One's a born liar and the other's convicted"

Same almost applies here except, obviously First Lady Bill was impeached.

It's like Michael Jackson prosecuting John Wayne Gacy.

"He who is without sin may cast the first stone".

Newt needs to be launched into space with Al Gore, Hillary and First Lady Bill and Ms. Pelosi.

i used to be a brilliant Newt supporter, I certainly have now lost all understand for him as that's in basic terms a infantile act of retaliation.. we don't desire a President who has the flexibility to act this infantile. Newt is in all probability the main clever guy in the marketing campaign, yet each and all of the smarts in the international can not excuse this variety of habit..

Not really. Newt Gingrich was on Clinton's case for LYING BEFORE A JUDGE AND GRAND JURY. In the real world, this is a felony called PERJURY. You'll note that Gingrich was never put before a grand jury.

So no hypocracy.

This doesn't address that the woman he had the affair with is his current wife.

And note that there is not a difference to most conservatives. That's why Bob Livingston resigned from office after it came out that he had an affair. He knew the people couldn't trust him anymore, as did Mark Foley.

For Republicans, it is a mark of shame. For Democrats, it is a badge of honor.

Emma,dear... it is impossible to take someone seriously when they quote Mother Jones and Salon as reputable sources.

As for Gingritch - of course it was hypocritical. And disappointing.

However, we have allowed the liberal press to inaccurately portray the clinton scandel as 'just about sex'...the entire point of his impeachment was that he got caught - and eventually had to plead GUILTY to - trying to corrupt the justice system.
The highest ranking judicial official in the country coersing witnesses and subourning perjury.
The sex aspect was simply the brick in the wall that brought down the house.

Yes. BUT he wanted power but did not have the smarts or ability to earn it legitimately. Thus finding a whipping boy...aka Clinton.. he gained the spot light and power.

Newt is a hoot. Fortunately hardly anyone considers him a serious contender.

Yep, hypocracy is big in Washington. However this did not suprise me. What suprised me is that Newt actually found someone who was willing to have sex with him.
