America Ferrera is actually really pretty. But even as Betty I don't think she's ugly. She's got dark hair, glasses and braces and is not a size 0, which in USA means you're ugly.
But what is being ugly anyway? Betty is such a nice lovely girl that nobody would say she was ugly if she were a real person.

I agree the girl that plays ugly Betty isn't ugly at all. But I think that that is the whole point of the programme to show you that beauty is only skin deep and its doesn't matter what you look like on the outside it's what's inside that matters

I read an interview with America, who plays Betty, and she did not take it to heart, she understood that the show is about the beauty people have inside but do not always show. She is not ultra thin, does not have hair straight out of a magazine and she wears braces. Yet she is the most honest person working there. Love the show though, and I get what you mean, it would make me question my looks! x

She's so not ugly. The actress, America Ferrera actually goes for a one hour operation to 'transform' into Betty.

I doubt that Betty is really ugly in real life. I'm sure they geek her up for the part. And yes I would be upset if I went for the part and got because I am ugly....lol

yes,she's not ugly,she looks different,from those she works with,it must take a while,with make-up,braces,to get that look.I reed recently in a magzine that this sesons look is ugly betty,make a change for something different.I rather like the series Ugly Betty,as it's so funny!

I agree, 'ugly' Betty isn't ugly. In America if you haven't got lovely long flowing hair and ware a swim-suit, you must be ugly. You've just got to watch any America 'ugly duckling to beautiful swan' film to see they have no idea about being 'ugly' - whatever that means.

America Ferriera is a very pretty girl just the make-up, glasses, braces that make her ugly, and she probably gets more attention now for being pretty so no I wouldn't be upset specially not with the dollars they will be paying her

She is pretty without all the make up of glasses and braces, only bad thing is it makes out that if you do have to wear braces and glasses people are going to make fun of you, some people can't afford or can't help it. She does not take it seriously. I think she trys to make people see that beauty truly is from the inside out!
