I had one with my first baby and felt everything! It also took a long time to heal, but with three of my other pregnancies I tore and it wasn't half as painful and healed a lot quicker.

My first 3 babies I had w/o pain meds for various reasons...they do numb you with a shot before they cut you for an episiotomy...with the first two I had an episiotomy, the third I tore... The next two babies I had with an epidural, and no cut OR tear...and I know it was due to the fact that I was able to push and not push when told to...the epidurals gave me a far more controlled birthing experience...I will have an epidural this time too...but I know they prevented any cutting or tearing for me...Your bottom will be sore whether you have cuts or tears or not...you passed a BABY through there for pete's sake and just the stretching of the perineum will make you sore...Take the Motrin they give you after the birth on schedule, use icepacks as long as you need to, walk slowly, sit down easily, and begin your Kegels shortly after the birth...

Okay, they don't actually freeze you!! They do give you a shot of a numbing agent so you don't feel a thing. And if you have been pushing a while you are generally pretty numb there any way. A lot of women don't want an episiotomy but I figure it is because they never had one. It is actually a blessing becuase it is less painful for the baby to pass and you heal up a whole lot better than if you had ripped. I have had three babies and They cut me on the first and the rest I ended up tearing. I also had all natural births, no meds! So I felt everything.

I had an Epidural so i didn't feel it at all, while he was doing it.
But afterward it stung really bad. I couldn't sit down right for two weeks and i finally made myself endure the pain and sit in warm baths until it was better.
I hope i don't have to have one this time, 36 weeks, but i guess it's better than tearing.

I had one with my first. I didn't feel a thing, I didn't know she had done it until afterwards! It was a bit uncomfortable to just plop down somewhere for a couple weeks afterwards. I was never in pain because of it, just sore. I suggest bringing a pillow to sit on, for the ride home. That helped me loads.

They're not too bad. Like I said, I was never in pain because of mine. My bottom was just sore for a week or two. Just take it easy and go slow when you sit down afterwards

I couldn't feel anything because I had an epidural. My epidural was really good, I did feel anything until about three hours after everything was done. I hope this helps.

I had one. I honestly dont think it hurt that bad, mainly becuase i was pushing and having contractions, so to me i guess it was like, what's one more pain? I mean it felt umcomfortable and weird but it wasnt more painful then what i was already feeling, at least in my opinion.

They numb you before they cut you. I didn't even notice the doctor did it. But I felt the stitches.
