If you have a router you can get your primary dns and secodary dns from the router. The ip config as mentioned above will not give you the information you require for the xbox if you have a router.

Your primary and secondary dns numbers on your router will be shown under the adsl port settings.

If you have the old xbox not a 360 you can set your ip and dns up manually. For some reason when I set mine up with a router the xbox asked me for the dns. I put the dns in and then set the settings to automatic. Try putting the ip and dns settings to automatic first and test your connection. Are you trying to connect wirelessly with a wireless gaming adapter.

It's your Domain Name Server. Go to Start and click on Run... Type CMD then click OK. On the dos prompt, type "ipconfig /all". Don't include the quotation marks. You will see a list and one of the things in the list is your DNS Server and the IP number that goes with it.
