I'd negotiate. Why waste the energy on trying to kill someone who might know the way out? It's a simple deal; we split the food and water. When we reach whatever passes for civilisation, the money's his. He earnt it, along with my gratitude.
I survived, and it was money well spent.

$4000 bucks for chips and water? Maybe I'd slip him a $50 and save the rest for the guy down behind the sand dune with the ATV for rent.

Or you could just ask him which way to civilisation and pay him for that.
If he is stranded as you are i doubt he would need the money either.

He wouldn't take it because the money would be just as useless to him as it is to me. I would have to find a way to kill him or share it.

Well, I may try asking him where he got his chips and water from first.

No, I would make a very good friend of him.
We can stand together.
