I brush my guinea pig every few days. He shares a cage with two other guinea pigs and he has semi-long hair (might be a cross breed between a peruvian and a sheltie, I'm not sure, I rescued him) but after a day of not brushing him, his fur gets really messy. He also smells worse than the others, and sometimes it's really bad. I sometimes have to cut out his tuggles, they're so bad that I can't control them with brushing! I've taken him to the vet, who said there was nothing wrong with him. I can't shampoo him because it's still a bit too cold to be putting water on him. WHAT THE HELL CAN I DO? Please help,
thanks!

Yah, don't wanna put him in water yet!! What i suggest, is that you:

-You wanna go get a pair of rabbit/quinea pig nail clippers. Be careful wen clipping, becuz u don't want him to bleed. If ur afraid of doing this, take him to the vet/pet store and maybe they'll do it for $$$.
-take him and friends out of cage.
-place in large cardboard/other type of box
-change dirty cage
-I suggest you use cat litter, this works to soak up the pee and smell
-Start with least smelly pig
-comb hair out real well
-cut off any "beyond help" or "ratty/disgusting" hair
-using a washcloth, wet with WARM WATER ONLY!!
-add a dab of shampoo, no bigger then a pea
-CAREFULLY wash through layers of hair, careful round head
-using warm water again, lightly clean hair
-if necessary, cut off any more clean excess hair
-wrap in towel and coddle to keep him warm and dry
-remember to NOT SATURATE the washcloth, you just want it damp, otherwise it could kill him
-if u wanna clean around his head/eyes/ears/nose, then use a q-tip.
-Repeat for each pig
-replace in cage
-I also suggest trimming the hair near the butt area, which can sometimes be the area of the most stink!

you can bathe it in the sink but make sure you dry it well afterwards and use a name brand baby shampoo... he might not like it but its for its own good....some groomers will do this for you also call around if you dont want to do it... dont cut his hair.....smile

edit also what are you using for bedding???a bathe in a closed room and make sure you dry him well is fine even if its cold outside...smile

AND DON'T GIVE HIM AWAY!! smile he is your baby/child thats just not right...smile
