I just like to ask for fun but woner if anyone has ever changed their name regarding a name because of a comment here?.

I had my son before i ever knew about yahoo answers. I would not take advice on naming my child from someone else though.

For me, it's definitly about pure entertainment and for the pleasure of possibly putting a name out there that hasn't yet been thought of. I have the names I love and plan on using them, it's just really fun to throw around other people's tastes to get different combinations.

I don't have children yet, but it's definitely entertaining to see people's choices and possibly discover new names you like.
Instances where I think people might take it seriously...
- if they honestly cannot choose between two or three names
- if they are just starting to consider different names and want varied opinions
- if they like a name, but want to know if there are any mean nicknames that would cause them to reconsider the name

Oh, entertainment, but I think there's some useful stuff to be had here, too.
Now and then I've seen "What about X Y?" from somebody in country A; I'm in country C, and here, X Y is a big celebrity -- who just went to prison, etc. Useful to know, I'd think.
I also _like_ to think the people who've brutally misspelled names might pay attention to the replies they get. I don't know that it actually happens, but. At least they've been warned...

How is this any different than getting a name from one of the 500 Baby Name books available at any store, except for this is free? For me though-entertainment.

Just entertainment for me. My children are already here and named but if I were looking for baby names I don't think I'd change my mind over a comment made here.

I have no clue what we are naming our little girl. Although I haven't made a post for myself I have read a lot of others. Some names people said are really pretty and have given me ideas. If I had her name already picked out I wouldn't change it. But it's fun to get opinions.

i wouldnt so much take the advise from a stranger when naming my child but it does give you an idea of what others think of the name you are wanting to pick. everyone has different opinions and sometimes its nice to hear different opinions when trying to decide!

Hey, it's never a bad thing to solicit other opinions and ideas. We can't always think of everything and somebody out there might just have an idea I like that will work for me too.
