Do you offer bottle first and then solids, or solids and follow up with milk? I've been giving baby solids first but she drinks less milk. I'm wondering if I should offer bottle first and follow up with solids. I'm also wondering if I should try to offer her solids 3 times per day or 1 to 2 times per day.

She had a cold a few weeks ago which decreased her appetite. I would like to get her back to per cold formula intake of 6 ounces, but she is currently doing 3 to 5 ounces per bottle. sometimes less.

Here's what I would do. I would always start with a bottle first, because for the 1st year of life formula should be the main source of nutrition.

I would try and feed her about every 3-4 hours, formula first, then the same food groups as you might eat.

(The baby I care for now does this - 7 am feeding, 10:30 feeding, 12:00 - 3:00 nap, 3:00 feeding, 6:00 large dinner, 8:00 bottle before bed)

IE. breakfast - some cereal & fruit , lunch - vegetables with meat, dinner - veg, cereal & fruit. etc.

Don't worry about her not eating enough solids until she is a year because she gets everything she needs through her formula.

At 1 year or a little before - begin a sippy cup with whole milk. That's when you should start giving her more solids and less milk. This is also the best time to switch your baby from bottle to sippy cup only.

Good Luck.

Different Doctor's and Different nutritionists will give you different answers.... According to Babycenter your child should be eating 40 ounces a day before they are truely ready for solids. Around where I live though the general rule seems to be to start trying to get your child on 3 meals a day. Its a slow process remember that. My 10 month old just really got on to 3 meals a day. Remember to keep formula as the primary source of nutrition My doctor's have alwyas wanted my son to take in at least 24 ounces in 24 hours... This has always been what he takes regardless of whether or not I offered solids. As long as your daughter is still gaining weight she will be fine. My suggestion about the solids would be to start offering it once a day maybe between bottles or right around dinner time. So she is getting used to eating with the family. She'll tell you when she is ready for more. Don't be afraid to ask your doctor what he/she thinks

3 times a day; solids first, then a half bottle or sippy. This is actually a good time to introduce a sippy--the tupperware type with no valve. Have baby take sips of formula between bites. Then my babies also have a full bottle/sippy at this age between lunch and dinner, usually after the afternoon nap. This gets about 24oz. of milk into them during the day (including the formula used to make the baby cereal) on top of the solids.

My son is 6 months and 1 week old. I will tell you how I feed my son. When he frist wakes in the AM (normally 8am) I breastfeed him untill he is full. About an hour later I feed him rice or oatmeal and a fruit (1/2 jar). Around noon he nurses again.1pm he gets a soild lunch. We just started the meats so he get gets that and a veggie. I start out with half of each and if he wants more I let him have more. He will normally nurse around 3ish to take his nap and then again around 5. He gets a soild dinner at 6 when my husband and I eat. I normally give him a meat, veggie and a dessert. He nurses again before her goes to bed. Some days this is different. Some times he will nurse more or I will give a bottle of water/juice.
I would call your baby's ped and talk it over with him/her. I think they all have a general guide line but everyone is going to do something different. Just remember you baby with tell when she is hungry and full. Good luck!!!

My daughter is 8 months old and we do solids and then bottle...only because I think she gets a little lazy and wont give the bottle back and eat solids if I give her the bottle 1st. Besides, I would rather her eat and get nutrients/fiber from fruits and veggies than just drinking calorie packed formula.

We do breakfast...a little oatmeal cereal mixed with formula and some fruit.

And dinner....now we eat meats (turkey with sweet potatoes is a favorite) and a fruit or veggie.

My daugher is big for her age(we're both tall) but she eats alot but sometimes they just dont want as much. They might not be growing as much. As long as she's eating thats good...believe me she'll let you know if shes hungry!

I give my son soilds first then the formula. Maybe she's just not hungry? Theyll tell you when they are full. My pedatriction told me to give him soilds 3 times a day, aka 3 meals with bottles in between. Granted there is only one inbetween bottle becuase soilds and 6 oz of formula keeps him good for almost 5 hours. My sons still on the 1st food though, not sure what your daughter is on. I wouldnt push her to eat more if she doesnt want it, its one way to give her a tummy ache.
