There were no drugs involved, other family members did drink though. The parents smoked, he did not. They used fear against me by holding a knife. All together, it was simply just a bad choice on his part.

1. No drugs.

2. No alcohol.

3. Yes, he drank entirely too much caffeine. However, I've been in other relationships with people who drank too much caffeine but weren't abusive, so I highly doubt it was a factor.

4. Yes, but the answer is the same as with the caffeine.

5. Yes. "Other" would be mental illnesses - mainly BPD

My children and I were mentally abused for alot of years by my ex. He did not do drugs. Thank God for that. He was an alcoholic and an asshole. I could barely stand the man. He did quit drinking and went to AA but nothing changed for the better. If anything, things sometimes were worse when he got sober. He became a dry drunk. He did drink coffee and that was when he would go to his AA meeings. He also smoked cigarettes but alot of people smoke when they drink. We did eventually divorce because I was so tired of arguing with him all the time. Even when we were divorced we could not get along. I have wished many times that things could have been different for the two of us if only for my 3 children. My ex got sick in '99 with lymphomia and died in 2001.
