They are too large to diffuse across a membrane. In contrast, glucose molecules or any other monosaccaride is small enough to diffuse through the membrane.

They are too big to diffuse through the membrane of the visking tube....

They're too big. Monosaccharides (glucose, etc.) can but the pore size is too small to allow polysaccharides to pass through.
