Hypocrite - I was in a nightclub in Ireland (after their smoking ban) and the smell of stale beer and B.O. was pretty rank! Not so bad for your health though.

Been in Scotland for about a year now (I think).
think it's great... you can go to a pub and not come home stinky of stale smoke.
the only drawback i have found that if someone drops a really smelly pump there is nothing to cover it up with!!! ha ha

I'm an ex-smoker so it does not bother me,but most of my friends smoke. What does bother me is that most people seem to miss the point that while the govt. is banning smoking everywhere (except the smoking room in the Houses of Parliament) they are still quite happy to rake billions of pounds every year from smokers. They are taxing them at work but saying they will refuse them NHS treatment. They cannot put more money into the police force but they can create new jobs for "Smoking Wardens".All the beer drinkers out there beware! They are coming after you next because when your favourite back street pub disappears through lack of customers, and many will be forced to close after this ban. There will be nowhere to go except home and when we are all locked up safely in our own little shebeens then they can switch off all the street lights to save money and hope that crime goes away!!!Don't try lighting up in the street either, you may get shot in the dark
End of rant!

Been in Scotland for a while now. I don't go to the pub so I'm not bothered. However, it has killed a lot of pub trade. My mum says the bingo hall she goes to, has lost a lot of trade too.
Funny thing though; all the smokers I know, who do go to the pub, are quite happy with the ban. It took a while for some pubs to find other ways to cover the smell of stale beer.

I think its a good idea especially in places that serve food.
I think its discusting when you are trying to eat and all you can smell is tobaco smoke
Even though they have no smoking areas smoke still filters through into the non smoking area.
There isn't an invisible barrier that the smoke hits and goes woaa I can't go there its non smoking.
When you go to a pub you have the choice to drink or not but when someone smokes you don't get that choice through the second hand smoke.
I can't wait

Very pleased, sick of breathing in smoke when having a meal at a pub, smoking killed my Mum and Dad plus 4 workmates, last one just before last Christmas.
I'm a non smoker, yet the number of working days in the last 10 years where I've not been forced to breath 2nd hand smoke can be counted on the fingers of one hand!

What will be next.
They already started on food and what we can eat.
Banning trans fat
PETA and their never ending war on me eating meat.
Or how we live in the fears of man made global warming where we find out that Al Gore is now on start up of company that will make a killing if they get their way. Notice those who preach it don't walk the walk either.
Those are couple of things I am thinking about this morning.
Someone mention a bar.
Lets think about this.
People go to the bar and drink causes damage to their livers and they are seeking unprotected sex (hence all the health problems associated with it).
Yet we worried about second hand smoke.
Think about it.
