It is simple, Just Quit. I smokes for 29 years and simply quit. You have a bit of a hangover but in a week you will be proud of yourself. Everyday after that without a ciggarette you will feel even more empowered. It takesballs and courage, it also tells you what you are made of. Do it, don't be a panzy. Good Luck. I smoked a pack and a half of Marlburo a day and have been smoke free for 7 years now.

No one can help you to stop smoking except yourself.I do not believe in going cold turkey although everyone is different.I smoked for over 35yrs.I tried 3 times and failed,then suddenly I was filled with this wonderful willpower.I went to Resolution and they offered different aids.I chose the gum which was surprising because I wasn't a chewing gum person.I found it wonderful has an aid.I got 6 months supply for the price of one prescription.I didn't use it for the full 6months but without it I wouldn't have got through.That is nearly 4 yrs now and I feel a different person.I do not wake up in the morning with a sore throat and a tight chest.Two of my daughters have since stopped as well.One used the inhalater for about 3 months and my other daughter used patches,but only for 3 weeks and has never looked back.I hope you

Getting Ready to Quit
Set a date for quitting. If possible, plan to have a friend quit smoking with you.
Notice when and why you smoke. Try to find the things in your daily life that you often do while smoking (such as drinking your morning cup of coffee or driving a car).
Change your smoking routines: Keep your cigarettes in a different place. Smoke with your other hand. Don't do anything else when you are smoking. Think about how you feel when you smoke.
Smoke only in certain places, such as outdoors.
When you want a cigarette, wait a few minutes. Try to think of something to do instead of smoking. For example, you might chew gum or drink a glass of water.
Buy one pack of cigarettes at a time. Switch to a brand of cigarettes that you don't like.

The only person that can help you to stop smoking is you. You need to give up for yourself. Not because you have been asked/told to. Do it for you.
I did it for me 18 months ago. Best thing I ever did. I got patches on prescription, and one of those inhalator thingys. I drank tea, cleaned house like someone possessed, and changed routines as best I could to avoid the "need" (otherwise known as a craving).
Now I never think about me smoking. My doctors at the hospital, and my GP, now all tell me I am a non-smoker. So that is what I am.
If you really want to give up you can and will.

Have you tried Hypnotherapy? It can really work.
Your doctor's surgery might have a Stop Smoking clinic.
If none of this works, try giving yourself positive thoughts for every hour that you resist smoking. Picture yourself looking healthier, being able to run without puffing, and your lungs having a break.

First of all Congratulations on your decision to quit.
You realize it's not good for you and the others close to you.
As much as it is your decision to quit, it is also upto you to deny your body's urges for a puff for the rest of your life. Many people can tell you many things and advices but it all comes down to your mental strengh and determination.
Here is little bit of my story.
I have smoked one pack a day for the past 12 years. By the time I reallized it wasn't cool anymore and hurting my body not to mention stinking up my cloth and car I was hooked.
I chainsmoked when I was under stress and that's when I first felt sick with overwhelming amount of nicotine and wanted to vomit. That was one of my motivation to quit smoking. But I have a bigger factor I put myself under to deny my urges. I applied to become a firefighter. Not just to quit smoking but I am in a process of career change. And they do not permit any use of tobacco on or off duty. Therefore by putting myself under situation where in order to even be considered for a position I have no choice but to quit. It has helped me through the rough 1-2 month and now I am going onto 5th month without a puff. I went cold turkey and thought about this smoking my last stick of cigarrette. Well I sometimes stand close to my friends who smoke to get a little bit of 2nd hand smoke just to reminice but my urges are under controll now.
(just so you know this wasn't my first try quiting. I really think the whole motive thing made the difference.)

Don't delay. Make up a great deal of motivation of your own or two and think of that when you have the urge. Also, quiting cost more than keeping the habit, buy plenty of gum, mint, mixed nuts, sunflower seeds, and water. They help tremendously. Once you figure out what you want it's really not that difficult. You and your loved one will be happy and proud of your successful attempt.

I just quit smoking February 1 2007 when I went in for back surgery told myself that I was going to quit while I was in the hospital.After the first surgery if I could have got up out of the hospital bed and gone outside I would have had a smoke but I had problems after surgery and stayed in the hospital for a month unable to move I still had cravings but could to nothing about it.Then my kids ( 8,6,and 4) came to visit me and my mother told them that I had quit smoking they were so proud of me.I've been home for about 3 weeks and its hard but I just think how proud they are and that not growing up around smokers might just help them not become one.
It's hard and you really have to want to quit but find something that matters more to you then smoking and think of that every time you go to smoke.

I think the answer is in your question. Can "Someone" help me to stop smoking? No "Someone" can't help you to stop smoking.
But, "someone" can help you to realise that you can help yourself to stop smoking. No one else can do it for you.
I would recommend a man called Kevin Laye. He uses Hypnosis as good as McKenna, and NLP and TFT which Paul McKenna uses. Search for him on the net, he can help you usually in one session, I've never known him to use two.
This can give you the mind set you need to quit smoking all by yourself, so that you can take all the credit all by yourself. You can take all the pats on the back and all the looks of admiration from all those smokers who want to be just like you. They want to smell as fresh as you and have all the extra cash you have. They want to be as strong as you and they look at you wondering how you did it.
The only person who can stop you smoking is the person who walks around with you all day, removing cigarettes from your mouth every time you caved in. Obviously thats not possible, but bear in mind, the first week its really good to exercise or use a sauna every day to sweat out and eliminate the toxins quicker and drink lots of water to help flush them out too.
You know that you can do this, Kevin will be able to treat all your fears about a future without cigarettes as well as your present issues.
