In a head-to-head week you should be more concern about consistency. For example, if a player hits 5 homers in a week, then does nothing for the next three it looks OK in the total stat line, but he was no help in the other weeks.
Take a look at the player pages in Yahoo! and see which players you are considering were the most consistent month-to-month last year (and other years) to see which trend is best for you. I do not think you can go wrong with either; Howard is a great hitter with tremendous power. A-Rod is a great hitter as well and he offers more speed for stolen base potential. Remember to consider which position has the most depth; which player stands out more at their respective position.

I would take Howard. He has improved consistently over each year since he's entered pro baseball.
A - MVP
AA - MVP
MLB - NL Rookie of the year
MLB - NL MVP
He was the most consistent power hitter in the league last year. He never even had a hot streak. Pitching within his division is considerably worse than it was last year.
As much as I like Santana, I just can't see passing up an every day player like Howard for a guy that's only going to pitch 20% of the games.

If Pujols and Reyes are going 1&2 take Soriano.
"He is no longer second-base eligible, but still an elite performer in all categories. He could be the first pick overall in some drafts." -SportingNews: Fantasy Baseball on Alfonso Soriano

Howard out of the 3 you mentioned. Santana is hands down the best P but I dont like drafting pitching early. A-Rod is consistent but with that high a selection i wouldnt take him. I personally would go with Soriano.

Pujols is the main secure p.c... some like Howard yet i admire him to do it returned b4 i could p.c.. him 1st. Soriano has ppl's interest because of the fact of his 50-50 ability. ought to ensue because of the smaller ball park. Stealing 50? a threat yet he has to get on base a sprint extra desirable than he has in the previous. won't be able to go incorrect w/all 3. do not forget approximately A-Rod. W/all those hitters in that lineup,he due 4 a monster season

Personally, i would pick Howard, but I think A-rod is set for a big year so you wouldn't be wrong in picking him either.
I'm of the belief that you should get the best position players at the top of the draft and go after starting pitchers alittle later. 3rd pick is too early for a pitcher.....in my opinion.
Good Luck.

Definitely Howard. He led the league in HRs and RBIs, he'll only get better.
