Depends on what we are talking about.
When it comes to politics, media, current affairs, society etc its all about reading between the lines. Its foolish to gobble up what is hand fed to you.
In relationships there is a bit of both. Sometimes you need to hear what the person isn't saying to you. In other circumstances you need to accept what they are saying and not question or second guess it. The trick is knowing when to do which!
