any ideas how to make homemade food for fish?

There's a book(out of print,now) called "The Encyclopedia of Live Foods" it was published by Tropical Fish Hobbyist,and contains a lot of great information about feeding fish.Try used book sources.-----PeeTee

Try fruitflies.You can grow them on a cake of oatmeal and mushed banana.When you put a couple together they will multiply rapidly.Drown the flies when there are many and pour them into the tank.Rainworms and maggots are good food as well depending on the size of fish you have.You would be amazed what fish do not eat.
