The original Terminator, without a doubt. Even though the puppetry looks a little creaky now, this was the definitive deranged-robot-chase movie! Second best would have to be Predator.
All of the Reagan-era gung-ho evil-Commie-scum propaganda stuff was tosh, and most of the other sci-fi stuff was overblown nonsense (The Sixth Day, anyone?). And don't even get me started on the 'comedies'... (Danny DeVito was the only redeeming feature of Twins).
True Lies was a good movie, but blatantly post-cold-war-so-now-it's-the- evil-raghead-scum propaganda.
(I guess we're not going to see an evil-oilbaron-scum movie from Arnie, although Steven Seagal had a bash at it. Pity that one sucked...)

While Commando was about as great an 80's film with inexhaustible one-liners ("I eat Green Berets for breakfast!") and crazy action (like the one when they corner him in the tool shed), it's hard to beat the first Conan. This movie had so much action and character development had defined how manly men should live and behave according to the Conan books by Robert E. Howard.

true lies is a great action film with a sense of fun but as for best i think terminator 2 is miles ahead of any other. It was ground breaking at the time and raised the level for action in movies, he didnt have to act great but he didnt need to to make his character work so well.

As a writer, I like the script of the second Conan film the best. It had a great ragtag set of characters--spoiled princess, giant black warrior with attitude, cut-rate Chinese wizard, female black Amazon, murderous queen and likable cowardly thief, mad magicians, crazed queen etc. Besides the stirring final duel, there's also Conan taking a chance to get drunk before he leads his group of misfits to probably suicide--it seemed logical to me at the time. And there's the music by Basil Poledouros.
