It's understandable to feel that way, I think. When we are around people who have more than we do and have accomplished wealth and success, it makes us look at our lives and wonder what went wrong. On the other hand, no matter what people have, they all face problems in life. Try not to compare yourself with them, but instead look at your own accomplishments and successes and be proud of them. I think when we see people like that we have a tendency to think that their lives are perfect and of course, they're not. To me, the greatest success is true happiness within. No amount of money can buy that.

You really shouldn't...
I would like to point out that rich and successful are to very different things.
Take that Paris Hilton girl for example... very rich! but has done nothing that could put her into the successful category.
Another example would be me... I achieved "success" a long time ago. Yet it had no impact on my financial situation. (I was still dirt poor) To me, success was getting married to my beautiful, smart, loving wife... and having a family... Every thing after that is just icing on the cake so to speak.
Over the last ten years I have made some very smart and lucky moves in business that has given me and my family a lot of money to play with. I was very lucky... nothing more.
I have a closet full of tailored suits, a garage with a few cars that are worth more that most peoples homes, a house that is bigger than anyone could passably need.... Take that all away and I am still that same guy that achieved success through something that really matters.

I am happy for extremely rich people and I look at them and think "how can I learn from them to become extremely rich too"?! The secret is this - compounding! Example - sell something on eBay, then do not spend that money - buy something else and then sell it and keep on doing this moving up to more and more bigger items (compunding) till you get to the monetary level you want to be at. You can do this with anything, real estate, savings accounts, etc.
Anyone can be wealthy if they learn to work and live on a tight budget and then take their extra money and invest it in compounding. Most people work and blow their money at the bar and buying a new stereo for their car, etc. They get their income tax refund and blow that too on junk and eating out. And then people wonder why they can never get ahead...
BUT remember - All the money in the world cannot buy peace, true love, and happiness. It is better to live in a simple house and have all of your bills paid and have peace and quiet than to live in a mansion and fight all the time with someone and worry about how to pay your bills and taxes. Watch Dominick Dunne on Wednesday night on Court TV. His show talks about how rich and famous people kill each other, etc. over money, lust, and greed.

I am what I am. I know the mistakes I made that got me to the level of mediocrity I currently enjoy. How someone else performs or fails doesn't mean anything to my success or lack thereof.

If they define themselves by their money, then their arrogance makes me feel superior, actually.
