i turned the truck off and started it again and the abs light is still on

It could be a number of problems, without a detailed diagnostic flow chart, or a scan tool this would be very hard to determine what is the fault. I would take it to the dealership and have them check it out.
There are a myriad of sensors and control modules that effect your ABS and traction control systems, chances are that it is just a speed sensor. But I would take it to the dealership or a reliable garage. With out the proper equipment this problem can open allot of guess work.

Well, it sounds as though you have a concern with the abs system. I would have to guess the rear axle speed sensor has failed. It is very common for these to fail, and a very simple repair to replace, the part is cheap also.
That would be my guess, but you could also have other concerns,that until you run diagnosis on the system, you wouldn't be able to tell.
You could make a 25.00 guess, or take it to someone and spend 100 to diag...

it is probablt the speed / abs sensor in the rear diff. this happened on my 2003 explorer and it was under warranty and ford had to put a new diff. in it. that is when i went to the tahoe no more fords. ford has more problems than dick tracy
