with liquid fertilizer you will stand a better chance of not burning them up you can use a 5 gallon bucket with a pin hole in the bottom filled with water and the liquid fertilizer set next to the plant

It doesn't matter what fertilizer kind, it just matters the amount to use.
Fig bush: about 1/2 to 1 pounds annually, depending on the bush size.
Crepe myrtle tree: about 1 and 1/2 to 2 1/2 pounds annually, again depending on the tree size. Don't fertilize too late in the year one this one.
