Sexual desire is created by levels of the hormone testosterone. Slightly higher levels can create an abnormal intensity. This can be brought into balance with medication, prescribed by a doctor.
Addiction? Maybe...it is often called "sex addiction," even if it involves masturbation. Anyone can overcome any addiction without a therapist, but it's extremely difficult and it requires a lot of character strength...patience, persistence, mental toughness, etc. Most people can't do it.
The reason a therapist is recommended is because we're talking about a deeply ingrained behavior pattern. That means that dendrites from neurons have grown together to form a special neural pathway to enable the behavior. So choices most of the time are not conscious. You can will yourself not to do it, but typically the behavior is automatic.
The only way to change the pattern is to develop a new neural pathway. This is hard because of the amount of reinforcement involved. First, you have to behave differently, go against the grain of the establish pattern. Second, you have to do that successfully for a period of many months. It's hard to do this without the encouragement, coaching and structure of a therapist.
But I think the meds will work.

There is nothing unusual or alarming for a person to masturbate every day or night as in your friends case. Masturbation causes no side effects physically. For those who feel masturbation a sin or an immoral act, it surely causes a feeling of guilt, this being the only side effect. it is this feeling of guilt that makes the person feel weak, tired or totally stressed.
As in your friends case I observe that this urge to masturbate is at night before sleeping....
"An Idle mind is the devils workshop" goes the saying if your friend is doing it every night then i guess he is always thinking about the act before going to bed, this is the possible reason to feel the way he does. Ask him to divert his attention by way of a new hobby like reading books or my be play some physically challenging sports during the day. The energy drain would do the trick for your friend spending sleepless nights.
As for chemical imbalance or surge in harmones, I really don;t think your friend is suffering from any of this stuff...
Trust me I know coz i'v been through this myself. Today I'm happily married & also have a kid.

First we need to define terms. To me "masterbation" is something a woman does with her sexual organ(vagina/clitoris). A male does what I call "ejaculatory procedures" with his penis.(I am open for a NEW TERM for this "male procedure" if anybody's got one.
Sometimes it is true that "chemicals" can cause a person to be over producing a something such as SEMEN/sperm, and so YES the MALEsubject may need to ejaculate or else he will not be able to sleep or he has headaches, or I mean he could MEDICATE with some other "chemical" to negate this "over production" but in reality you would first want to STOP the INPUTS of what is causing the problem.... I do not know all the chemicals which would INDUCE TOO MUCH SEX-DESIRE(bad or good) I mean perhaps it all starts at the FIELD(fertilizer) level for most of us, or it could be the laundry detergent.
Both masterbation(female) and ejaculation-procedures(male) are appropriate and they are somethings that should be done in PRIVACY or with their lover in a PRIVATE EMOTION... so I have to regress here for a moment and say a word on this: PRISONS ~ that is one reason why we should have SINGLE CELLS, I mean say a guy or girl prisoner needs to ejaculate and they do not have the space? I guess there is the shower, but is that PRIVATE in prison? I mean what's the deal... I think there may be cases where man is running CRUEL and UNUSUAL prison situations... I am not talking about "wartime" where we do not have the resources to allow for a single room, I mean we are in 21st century usa and I still hear about messed up prison systems and well it is disheartening.
To return to the topic now and in closing I ask a couple of questions ~ is there DANGER of ejaculating TOO MUCH? Can a guy "go dry"?(as a result of the bad fertilizer over-inducing the ejaculations or what have you) Also what should a GUY think about when he ejaculates? Say that there is a younger guy just coming to his teen years and he does not want to HAVE SEX with another ~ should he think thoughts of women in his head? OR should he look at pornography, or what?
I know that some people may make fun of me for SEPARATING "male and female" actions with different terms, but I think it is necessary to delineate such into separate "actions" as we need to better understand such for male and female and the first step may be in how we classify and define the action. Clearly to me masterbation "sounds" like a peaceful thing a WOMAN would do to "get off" and when you say it for a man it does not sound "right", that's just me...
Also further notes for extra credit, when I was a kid I was SEXUALLY AROUSED b/c I was born into a perverted society which hung SEXUAL DEVICES on the school wall.(paddle)
So along the way for me I was "triggered" or inhibited in some way from that....
HOPE AND PRAYERS FOR LAWS AGAINST UNCONSENTUAL SPANKING/PADDLING
(again the terms "spanking" and paddling" are sexual in of themselves, can't you hear/feel it?)
Man was so mistaken to do this as he was mistaken to RAPE COWS.

Self control is very important in Life.... may it be Sex or other natural human emotions. It is but natural that after reaching the stage of youth any healthy person will have the instinct for enjoying the sex. But one should at that age remember that one drop of seimen is formed out of 40 drops of blood. Once you know this any young man will know the value of preserving it for maintaining good health and one need not masterbate as any excess stored will naturaly go in night discharge in the form of dreams. However certain times the imagination reaches such hights that one gets tempted to masterbate.. and medically they say there is no harm. But anything that is in excess is harmful.. so also the addiction to this habit. My humble suggestion to the young generation is to have mental stimulation and stop masterbation for the sake of building a strong Nation. You have self control and you will know it will give you result at right time and right place when you step into family life.

Okay several questions here, 1. why does it even matter to you how often this person masturbates? Has he confided in you , therefore seeking help?2. Is this person in the privacy of his own bedroom when he masturbates?3. Does this person's masturbation disrupt his day to day functioning? In my oppinion, unless this person is causing someone else harm, there's nothing wrong with his nightly ritual. It sounds as though he hasn't a sexual partner to relive his tensions through intercourse, so who is he harming by "taking matters into his own hands"? It sounds to me as though you are judging this person by your own standards of moral /immoral behaviour, and unless he is endangering himself or anyone else by his "self pleasuring", you'd do well to leave him alone.

It's a kind of addicction. And reguarly masterbate effect's your body.As it decreases the percentage of nutrient'e level of your body which results in retarted growth. It too effect your nerves of penis, which might result in the lowering of stuffness as well as it become retarted. So better left this habit.Solution for these is either you do regular exercise or yoga. And avoid living or sleeping alone.
