I had gone out yesturday to see the movie 300 with a mixed group of couples. I was suprised at everyone's individual opinion about the movie. I thought it was pretty good, it had a mixture of the "Gladiator and a Troy" feel to it..

Who here, has seen this movie? If you have, this is for male and females both, did you like it or dislike it and why?

I personally thought it was phenomenal. Aside from the obvious action scenes there was a lot of eye candy; the visually-stunning backgrounds and amazing screen shots gave it a surreal feeling, while the plot of how men are really supposed to be (not the metrosexuals that are in so much demand thanks to MTV's definition of what a man is supposed to be) seemed to strike at the psyche of all the guys I know who feel short-changed by society's expectations. This is similar to the feelings that the movie Fight Club created in young men (generation X).

I think overall there will be a lot of critique about the historical accuracy (it's not historically perfect, but had much to offer), its racism (yes, the Spartans did practice eugenics and were not multi-cultural or multi-ethnic while the Persians were not all "white"), and its misogynous stance (aside from Gorgo there are no women characters, but then what women could there have been?). Either way, it has a lot to offer for nearly everyone who hasn't made political correctness their creed.

My first take was 'Gladiator' on steroids. Now that you mention 'Troy', that rings true too! I loved it.

Well done, and well spun tale of the Battle Of Thermopylae. I've seen a few people looking for things they don't like about the movie. Some of the very weak complaints:
Too much slow motion fighting.
Too much blood.
Gratuitous breast flashing.
Its not historically correct.
and the ever popular, 'its racist propaganda:
The good guys are white vs. the bad guys are brown.'

I have to laugh at these people. I say to these people, its not supposed to be a documentary, but a TALE. The story is told from the persepctive of Spartans, hence ANYONE who is their enemy would be depicted as, mutant, decadent, alien, and evil. By the way, who in his right mind would believe Spartans wound go into battle without any body armor or believe that EVERY warrior in Sparta had 3% bodyfat and washboard abs? ROFL

Its an action movie based on a bloody battle! Lighten up and enjoy the movie or just go see Little Miss Sunshine!

I saw this movie Friday night when it came out with a group of friends, and we all thought that it was very well made, and loved it. Some of the nudity did not need to be in the movie though, it kinda seemed like they just put it in randomly. I loved the movie; but being a girl there was sooooo much blood, and gore, it was nothing like I was expecting at all. But hey, there were some real hott actors in the movie, and of course all the male actors had washboard abs.
But.... the movie was almost 2 1/2 hours of straight fighting except for about ten minutes which was either sex scenes or getting ready to fight !!

I used to say GLADIATOR was my favorite film but I just saw 300 on Sunday and I was totally blown away! What an awesome movie! I was fascinated every minute! The script, the costumes and sets, the music, everything was just PERFECT!!!

I was blown away by the action scenes, they were choreographed very nicely and looked pretty realistic. (OK, OK, the arterial spurt was wrong, there wasn't enough gushing blood and no sword, no matter how sharp, stays sharp long enough for you to hack that many people to death but let's overlook little details like that, OK?)

I own swords and I know it's not easy to swing those babies for long, you really have to be in good shape and these guys really looked it! Like real warriors not the weekend warrior type. I mean, you could believe that they'd been training as warriors since they were kids.

OK, there was some gratuitous nudity (young "oracle" in flimsy gown, the Queen of Sparta flashing flesh, the king and queen in the bedchamber) to keep the young, testosterone laden men interested until the carnage but I guess that's only fair as we women were treated to the sight of all these buff guys in skimpy war outfits.

The bad guys were suitably bad, LOL! Ah, it was just a spectacular feast for the eyes in many respects and was very inspiring. No doubt I'll go see it again while it's still in the theaters and immediately snap up a copy when it comes out on DVD!

No question, 300 is the best movie of 2007 so far. I've seen several: WILD HOGS, 23, GHOST RIDER, CATCH & RELEASE, MUSIC & LYRICS.... um, some horror flick whose name I can't even remember now... in fact, several movies that I can't name now because they were so mundane but 300 is awesome! Both my boyfriend and I loved it!

I went to see this movie for the eye candy alone, particularly Gerard Butler. I'm a big fan. I'm so glad he will get the attention he deserves with this one. He was SO short-changed as Phantom of the Opera. Loved his eyes in this movie - - - they were very intense, were they not?

It was a good movie, but not my type of movie. Intense battle scenes all the way through sort of wore me out. I wish I had known more of the story before watching it. I would probably have enjoyed it a lot more.

The good thing is that there was no nasty language. The sex scene and the women's nudity was not necessary - - - they just put that in there for the men (Geez!). I went to the early show, but what really got to me was that parents were bringing in their young children (10 & under) to see this film. This was an R-rated film. Not recommended for young kids.

My husband and I both saw it. He only likes comedies, so I had to drag him to the theater. However, he loved this movie. I did too. I think it embodied all of the qualities men and women like in movies. The tough strong men inspired the testosterone filled male viewers, and the strong Queen inspired the women viewers (not to mention all those guys running around half naked ha ha). It's been agreed with my circle the the writers of this movie have appealed to both genders as well as all ages.

hey i saw the movie yesterday too! and i think that was the best movie i have ever seen but i think they put a little too much of nudity and sexuality but it was still a great movie even though some parts of the movie were not corect like the final battle where leonidas and the 300 die leonidas dies last while in real life it was written that he died during the battle not after but still the best movie i have ever seen!

Upon seeing the previews of this movie, it immediately becomes apparent that apart from the actual names used in it, the entire depiction of this battle is based upon fantasy. Nowhere among the historical data that remains of the time of Xerxes and ancient Persian empires, do we come across any reference that shows those kings and soldiers as monsters with body-piercing, armors, facial features and demonic behavior that seem to have sprung out from the dungeons of hell. The inaccurate and derogatory depiction of ancient Persians that according to all historical data conducted warfare with mastery and dignity, and looked nothing like science-fictional monsters, is a depiction of how movie studios and authors sacrifice historical accuracy for would-be profits.

The author Frank Miller and Warner Brothers Studios should understand that distorting historical data is unethical, and so is feeding ignorance to viewers and readers. Fantasy-like characters should not have names that are based on actual historical figures. Xerxes was one of the many revered and respected rulers of an ancient civilization the vestiges of which last to this day and are acknowledged by historians of all nations. He did not look like a creature out of a frightening bedtime story. Neither did his soldiers.

By all means depict important historical events, but take the trouble to visit a library and to do some research before you do so.

I have to admit - I was drug to the movies with my boyfriend to see this one. This is usually not my kind of movie. I usually get lost during the battle scenes and lose track of who's who. However, I really liked this movie. It was extremely entertaining and kept my attention throughout the entire movie. And that's a major feat for me! I am glad I was forced to see it. ;)
