Not for the people of Cuba. He's good for the marine life of Cuba.
I understand (from someone who recently left Cuba, who does not advocate Castro's overthrow and lives in a Latin American country which is not anti-Castro) that living conditions there are truly terrible. All the grocers are government-run and the food is meagre and tainted, for example, rice is full of weevils. And this is in Havana, so you can imagine what it's like in other parts of the country.
I would like to see Cuba take a middle ground - democracy with a social conscience and a spirit of entrepreneurialism. I don't think the Cuban government should give back land and riches to people who left the country; I think the rum and cigar industries should have public shareholdings open only to Cubans in Cuba, or new Cuban ownership (people who stayed in Cuba, not the Bacardi family, etc, who only give a stuff about their own money and not about their fellow Cubans). Some other industries like hotels/resorts would benefit from foreign investment. The idea is for the Cuban people to prosper - not a return to a situation where a few Cuban families and foreigners have all the money and everybody else starves - that's what led to the Cuban Revolution in the first place.

In all honesty there are some good aspects of Castro's Cuba. The fact that it is small is a plus in communism/dictatorship. with limited resources and a small population that form of government is very efficient if not so great to live in.

The answer is yes and no.
Yes in that he puts Cuba first. Many Cuban citizens love and adore him.
No in a global sense. Castro is so hated by the USA that the USA has been punishing Cuba for decades now...

Fidel Castro was good for Cuba. USA despite being a superpower cannot invade the tiny Cuba. Likewise, during the time of Fidel Castro, Cuba is good in sports. There were many good baseball players and world caliber boxers during under his leadership.

Fidel Caqstro stooped being good the second he came into power.
He has been a dictator in every sense of the word from the start.
Funny thing is,a Republican President refused to support rebel forces with democratic plans.

Over the last 50 years the gap between rich and poor has increased and the average standard of living has dropped and access to health care has vanished in the US.
In Cuba the reverse has happened.
So yes, he is bad for Cuba.

Well all I know that is people risk their lives on a daily basis trying to make the 90 trek to the US to get the hell out of there. These people love their country and if Castro was gone along with communism, there would be a mass exodus to return to their homeland. So if I view the Cuban refugees as any indicator, I would have to say no.

Think about this. Why are Cubans ESCAPING from there to America and not the other way around. Cubans are the only illegal immigrants that the U.S has a dry foot policy for. If they can get here and make it to the beach in Florida that are given political asylum. There have been those that have been stopped by the Coast and returned and imprisoned or executed . I believe that if a Cuban makes it one inch off the island he should be given asylum.
