Throughout history in countless civilizations, the freedom to do and say what we want has een fought for and died for. Today, that same freedom is used to discriminate and segregate others. Liberal, Republicans, Christaianity, athiests... Who cares?? What ever happened to listening, then if you disagree, agreeing to disagree?

The United States has long encouraged a 'one mind' mentality. While other countries embrace the notion of a cultural mosaic, the US calls itself a cultural melting pot. By that very definition, it suggests that everyone assimilates. I believe this is why there is so much discord regarding certain issues (gay marriage, abortion, etc). There is supposed to be ONE THOUGHT in America..."My country, right or wrong". When that is a motto, there is no room for individual thought.
Having said that, I'd like to add that diversity can strengthen a nation. Idea exchange is vital for a country's growth and strength. Its time America wakes up and recognizes this...as the small mindedness and lack of acceptance of other's ideas will prove to be a big part in the downfall of 'the greatest nation in the world'.

I agree with you 100%. I am a democratic liberal, but I am also a proud spiritualist and believer in God and happen to be pro choice. But yet one of my best friends is pro-life and strongly against abortion, & we have NEVER argued about it, we simply respected each other's point of view. I've also had friends who were atheists/non-believers, conservative, and I just respect them for their different points of view. I remember having a customer who was not for foreign-made products (and was returning something that was made in Mexico), at first I was thinking this lady's a racist, but instead I remained calm and asked her what would be the difference. Not only did she explain her point of view and got through to me (and she wasn't racist), but she was so polite and kind about it and all I could do was smile and treat her like with the best service I could. We bid each other to have a nice day, and while our points of view didn't change, we had a better light on each other's opinions and were able to respect them more (and the people who have the opposite opinions). If only most people were like that...

THANK YOU FOR POINTING THIS OUT. The worst among us right now is Rush. His habit of innuendos and suggestions and misspeaking to create hate and discord under the cover of "entertainment" while accepting speaking points from a political party should earn him the title of modern traitor. I find it so funny that his own cronies decided to take him down a peg and leak the story about his drug abuse. Tho sad that it has not deminished his stature. You know they have to be thinking of other things to test him with. You know they are quaking with the matra : He has to be controlled!
Oh yeah...what ever happened to....dummy down the people by destroying their education. They did it to the blacks in the south and now the entire nation.

i agree, but then i don't at the same time....their are conditions, if someone states an idea that is ignorant and it was obvious that they didn't research at all to see both sides of the issue then no, it is not sad to bash people.....
example: all liberals are communists, democrats hate America, democrats want troops to die so it makes Bush look bad....I'd hope you could agree that those ideas are ridiculous and couldn't be further from the truth.

I ask people all the time why they dont change the channel on the tv if they dont like whats playing. I think it has to do with people wanting others to listen only to their point of view.
