It is a given fact that gasoline purchases by Americans results in direct revenue and weapons for islamic terrorists in the middle east who kill our troops and devise attacks on our country. This includes any sale of international oil from any other country because that is what drives up the prices for the terrorist-countries, including Iran, from whom we do not directly purchase oil. We know that by improving miles-per-gallon on average a few points, we would be free of non-domestic oil. Now, it is true that many people truly need large suv's, or trucks, because of a business, for example land-scaping, or because they have 5 or 6 children, etc. But we all see the millions of suv's, trucks, and sports cars that are simply used to drive back and forth from office jobs and the store, etc, a function that could easily be done with a hybrid-electric automobile (as I do with mine). So, do these people, truly just have a selfish lust and don't give a damn about our troops and country?

I would love to be able to go without needing a vehicle. I would also be willing to purchase a hybrid, but there's no way I could afford it. If we were given better choices on alternative fuels I would use them. Why don't you ask why our government doesn't put more importance on developing solar or wind power? Oil is big business and has created thousands of jobs in this country. Our politicians aren't willing to fight such a huge, rich lobby. The little guy only has so much control over this.

Here is an idea for something unexpected you can do. Buy an all-electric car. You can buy an EV conversion, that is, a normal car that has been converted to electricity, for as little as $5000. Details on this page:
*
http://www.squidoo.com/cheap-electric-car/
*
Fot that price, you get an electric vehicle based on old battery technology, so you will have a driving range of less than 100 miles. But I drive mine to work every morning, and charge the batteries there, so I have plenty of energy to run errands on the way home. Yes, the car accelerates fine, and does freeway speeds. The electricity costs me only about a penny per mile. Less, in fact, since I do a lot of charging at work.
*
If you've got more money, you might want to consider the latest technology in electric cars:

*
The Phoenix electric pickup truck - using new, advanced Altairnano batteries (based on research from MIT) - can:

-Travel up to 250 miles per charge
-Carry 5 passengers plus cargo at 95mph.
-Charges batteries in as little as TEN MINUTES.
-Has batteries that last 250,000 miles (never need replacement.)
*
Yep, it's a real car - being built for fleet customers right now - available to the public next year.

I too, am puzzled why people who do not have to haul around the entire 4th grade or a live sheep buy such huge trucks. Do they have some sort of disconnect in their brains that allows them to forget where gasoline comes from? Do they not care if their great-grandchildren will ever see snow? Do they care if they will ever have great-grandchildren because Bush will get us into a nuclear war with Iran and the radiation will sterilize the planet?
It's nothing to me, I use public transportation and have no children but I worry sometimes.
