Global warming is more of a sudden thing, it's much more scary.

!We are not experiencing global warming!

We are experiencing climate change due to (what most will say) the green house effect caused by a build up of green house gasses (CO2, CFC's,etc.) and the hole in the ozone layer.
Some say climate change is due to our whole globe changing its position in the solar system and crazy stuff with the plannets.

global warming is the term used to describe the gradual increase in earths temperature over the past years. The greenhouse effect is what fuels global warming. The greenhouse effect is caused by the emission of certain gases, such as carbon dioxide, which allows for heat to be trapped on earth. This is actually a natural event in some cases. However, if to much carbon dioxide is released, mainly by humans, then too much heat will be retained. This in turn, is what causes global warming.

The greenhouse effect is a natural consequence of our atmospheric gases. It keeps the Earth from becoming an iceball. Without gases such as carbon dioxide and methane, which help to trap the heat of the sun, our oceans would be frozen solid, even at the equator. Throughout the history of our planet, there have been periods of global warming and global cooling. Although there may be some orbital aspects that contribute to these periods, most of the variance in temperature has been caused by changes in atmosphere. The reasons why our planet's atmospheric gases have changed have been many, including the influence of evolutionary changes in life (e.g., the evolution of phytoplankton), volcanic eruptions, etc. In one period of global warming caused by massive volcanic eruptions in Siberia 251 million years ago, 90-96% of all life on Earth became extinct (the PTr mass extinction event). In a more recent period of supervolcanic activity (but not so massive as 251 million years ago) 10-14 million years ago, Europe became a tropical jungle (and larges apes diversified there, an event which led to later hominid evolution when these new species of apes migrated back into Africa during a global cooling that started 10 million years ago), the poles melted and Florida was 200 feet under the ocean. Volcanic events have been particulary important in periods of global warming because volcanic eruptions put a lot of carbon dioxide in the air. Currently humans are mimicking a supervolcanic eruption in terms of the amount of carbon dioxide we are putting into the atmosphere. While the United states, as a leading consumer of energy has put a disproportionate amount of CO2 into the atmosphere, the current construction of over 650 coal fired plants in China and India, when operational, will accelerate global warming to such a degree that one could well expect that my home in Tampa will be about 3 feet under water sometime in the next 100-200 years.

*Global warming* is the term used to describe the measured or extrapolated increase in annual mean global temperature, that is, temperature averaged over the whole year and over the whole planet.

The *greenhouse effect* is the means by which global warming occurs. This refers to the physical mechanism of radiation "trapping" by carbon dioxide and other gases that results in higher average temperatures over time. The idea is that gases like CO2 have the same effect on the surface as a greenhouse does on the plants inside it - they make it warmer than it otherwise would be.

The presence of the gases which produce the greenhouse effect in the atmosphere exceeds a certain limit then it leads to global warming. So global warming is the child of greenhouse effect.
