The 60s have a lot to answer for. Yes, we saw major advancements in science and technology, and a lot of cultural barriers were broken down; however, this paved the way for our modern society of throw-away culture, a move away from the respect of family values, the sanctity of marriage, good education, and polite manners.

The music and fashion,[ and the drugs], live on, the mentality does too, in some ways.. Our society now believes it can support our troops. but not the war. As you might remember, or have learned, Woodstock was a platform for anti-war activists, and Joan Baez's famous song an anthem for the times. We did not support our military, often "greeting" them at airports with jeers and signs protesting their involvement in the Viet Nam war.
And as for the love part, the free love of the era changed our society's moral standards forever, our society lives together before marriage, dates with a bedroom encounter in the plans for the night. Before the 60's, not so much. It was done more quietly, and the consequences for the girl who got caught were often grim. I'm sure that Aids, and the prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases have reigned in some of the free love mentality, but not much. "Hooking up" seems to be a major part of our sexual culture in the new century. We do not seem to care who knows about, or cares about, our free style. Much like the '60s.
And fashion? A couple years ago, ratty embroidered jeans and baby doll tops were all the rage, again. I saw peace sign jewelry, and the long hair was back in style again, facial hair, too.

Maybe not in yours, but I remember it fondly and my approach to today's society is still engendered in that love fest.
As a supervisor, I try to care for all my people and help them to achieve as best as they can.
I show them that I care for them, and they will do their best for me. I award that as best as I can within the structure by giving bonuses, extra breaks, raises.
People who work want to know that they are loved and appreciated, and they will do the best job that they can.
Does this go away when I retire next year?

Yes, anybody you date who's about 50 is going to act like free love is still okay - I know this on a personal level. Most of the people who want pot legalized are from this era and claim it's for medical. However, all those symptoms they say it treats were originally caused by the drug from prolonged use. Think about it.
