They are more assertive and naturally assume the "alpha male" role when needed. Women, on the other hand, are more people-oriented and team builders. When the group needs to organize and work together for a long-term goal, they tend to work better as the leaders.

Obviously, these are generalizations, but as a group I have found it to be more true than not.
