The whole issue is that Maddy will be the first black princess that will be a main character. The story revolves around her.

They should have promoted as the first AMERICAN princess, though we don't have royalty in this country, I just wonder that with it being in New Orleans if voodoo is going to play a part in it.

won't it be nice when we finally graduate to a society that doesn't see skin color at all, so that distinctions like these vanish and we can celebrate the individual and not the individual's connections to various "kinds" ?
