Welcome to WoW...
The first question you are going to be faced with is what server you would like to join.
There are several different options,
PvP... While in contested zones, players can attack you, and you are able to attack players.
PvE... You may only attack players that agree upon duels, or have flagged themselves for PvP.
and RP... Roleplaying servers which emphasizes living in the lore of Warcraft. (PvE and PvP versions available)
Charector Selection, Race and Faction are going to be a tough decision. But, may I suggest taking a look at the following URL.
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/#gettingstarted
This has many useful articles to help you get started.
Once you initially enter the world, you will see NPC's with yellow "!"s above their heads. These NPC's will offer you quests which will give you Experience (which you need to get higher levels) Gold, or even Items.
Hope that helps

I've been in love with Blizzard games since I was 14 years old. I remember starting with Starcraft, moving onto Diablo, then finally finding my true love and passion, World of Warcraft. I've been absolutely addicted to this game for the past few years now. It's such a beautiful, mysterious, but often complex and complicated world of mystery and intrigue. I have, at many times, found myself where you may be now... confused or stumped in some way- and not knowing exactly where to turn or what to do. Or maybe just unsure of how to advance, or reach the next level in my gaming experience. These road-blocks ranged from very simple, basic, or otherwise minor problems to complicated and complex issues. Both technical and in-game. I did and still do find GREAT help, on ANYTHING WoW related, within the infamous Zygor guides at http://www.zygorguides.pcti-system.com .. These guides are like the Bible of WoW, the Encyclopedia Britannica for anything World of Warcraft. My go-to guide for just about anything and everything. And unlike others, these guides are integrated IN-GAME. Listed below are some of the things that currently come to mind:
-1-90 In-Game Leveling and Loremaster Guide
-Dailies and Events Guide
-Dungeon and Gear Guide
-Professions and Achievements Guide
-Pets and Mounts Guide
-Titles, Reputation, and Macros Guide
...The list goes on and on.
Anyways, I hope I was of some help to you. Above all, my greatest recommendation to you from personal experience, is DON'T FORGET that there is still a REAL world out there! Lol. The biggest problem for me that I've come across is my absolute addiction to this game. Like many others out there, WoW has taken over much of my life and free-time. Proceed with caution! FOR THE HORDE! :P

Server-wise, depends on if you want to kill alliance/horde (whichever is your opposite faction) on site throughout the world or just during battlegrounds.
PvP servers allow each faction to attack each other whenever.
PvE servers do not let you fight in the world (unless you are flagged to do so). It is mainly for people who want to enjoy the content of the game without the hassle of dying from opposite faction members.
I am on a PvP server, Anetheron, and I am Horde.
Once you choose a character, you will start off in a starting area of the game. Anyone with a yellow (!) above their head is a questgiver. Complete these quests and come back to them. You will receive experience points and sometimes even rewards from these quests.
Good place to go if you are stuck in a quest is: http://www.thottbot.com

Well first you need to install the game and download all the updates for it. I found from my experience that PVE is the best server to go on as you dont get mobbed by high lvl players when you start with your new character. RP is just one big joke i found, i started a character on one a RP server and watched 2 gnomes getting married, lol. it shows you all the stats of each race and class when you pick them so just read through it. Try and pick a server thats not full either as you may have to queue to log into it. the horde suck!!!! lol. if you want to find out the talent trees before you pick you class go to the website http://www.wow-europe.com/en/index.xml, there is a page on here that lets you play with the trees and helps you to find out your best one, you dont start on your talent tree till your lvl 10 though. its a great game and have fun :)
