Hi, I have a meade telescope and I wanted to hook it up to my laptop so i can direct it to the star I want to look at etc. using the software provided, There is an 'Aux' port which I understand is short for auxilliary. This wire was not provided with the telescope and I was wondering if this was the wire i needed to hook my telescope to my laptop as it is the only other port i can see. If so do i need wire to purchase from where i got my telescope? or can i just get it in an electrical shop? Thanks for helping me.

Yes sure,
It says...
ETX-60AT Astro telescope with autostar hand controller
and
ETX-70AT Astro telescope with autostar controller
on the front of the instruction manual

I am not sure what kind of interface equipment you have for your telescope - many have the capability to use 'Autostar' to drive your scope, but if it doesn't have motorized drive capability, then the laptop software is there to use to help you find stars, but you will have to physically move your scope to find them. I have provided a link to Meade's accessories page, and you can get to manuals there. Most newer equipment uses either the USB or serial port to hook to your laptop. Hop this helps!

You'll need a 4 pin to 6 pin cable and an RS232 adapter for the PC. You can also get USB to RS232 adapters and wireless connectors. I'm sure your telescope supplier could get them, but it's possible to make your own if you know how to use a soldering iron. Note that the Meade cable is 6' long while the diy notes say you can go to 100'!

Go to the following web page, it has all the resources for Meade telescopes. If you can't find the specific answer you are looking for just ask Mike (the web page master) the question.
