If she's a first time mom and/or a young mom will eat babies when it's too much for her to handle them all. We had one have 5 and she ate 4. The is natural for it to happen. They also eat when any babies are sick. It's natures way of trying to keep a healthy breed. How old are the babies now? How old is the mom? We just went through with losing a runt on Friday, her mom pushed her away, the runt was only a quarter of the other 3 in the litter. The former owner I took them from for over crowding her cages, thought the runt wouldn't make it herself. At this time it's 50/50 at to whether or not she'll kill the remaining 2. If their thriving and growing, then the longer they do this the better chance they have of making it.

My hamster had 11 babies and they all lived with her and happily-- she never showed any violence she i think that what happened is very strange. Hamster mothers are known to eat the babies if they think they have too many-- so keep an eye out for the other 2. They shouldnt be seperated but if they must then you can buy baby hamster formula at petsmart or other pet stores! good luck! =)

Actually, it's quite common between hamsters for the sick, dying or dead to be eaten by their parents or siblings. I've raised nearly thirty dwarf hamsters in the last two months alone, and one of our mothers went through basically the same thing, eating all but two of her babies. Sometimes the mother can't produce enough milk for all of them, sometimes they realize the babies are sick or deformed and won't live, and sometimes there doesn't seem to be an obvious explanation, but it is quite normal.

yes it is very possible the mother ate it. A hamnster is very viscous and when she gives birth she eats them.. it most likely happens when it si there first time giving birth. That is why you find some hamsters with there legs chewed off. the mother does it for some odd reason.
